Keeping It Cool While Camping

Keeping It Cool While Camping

There are a lot of things to love about camping. It’s an opportunity to get to experience the outdoors in its full capacity, it allows you to stop for the night in a comfortable place while you’re doing things like hiking or backpacking. Of course, it’s not without its issues. Perhaps the biggest issue with camping is that you’re subject to the elements. This can mean that sometimes it’s really cold, and sometimes it’s really hot when you’re camping.

Okay, so what are you supposed to do when it’s really hot and you’re out camping? There are a lot of air conditioners for campers, for instance, that can help you to keep cool while you’re camping. There are also a couple of other ways to keep it cool while you’re camping! To find out more, read on!

Pitch Your Tent In A Shady Area

If you’re camping out in a wooded area or somewhere that there’s a lot of shade, it’s worth your time to pitch your tent in the place with the most shade. This will mean that your tent isn’t absorbing the sunlight, the trees are instead. You’re more likely to get a little extra breeze if you pitch your tent in a shady area.

Buy A Tent With Mesh

The other thing that you can do is to make sure that you’re buying an outdoor tent with lots of mesh parts. This is a great way to get some extra air circulation in the tent. Not only that, but you will also be protected from any pesky insects too.

For this reason, if you’re planning on camping when it’s really hot outside, it’s worth your time to get a tent that’s made out of lots of mesh.

Use a Hammock

When you go camping, you most likely don’t think about camping in a hammock. Actually though, camping in a hammock is a great way to catch the summer’s breeze and keep yourself cool. All you really need is some trees that you can tie the ends of the hammock too, and of course the hammock yourself. Hammocks can get a little bit cold if the temperature gets a lot colder of course, so you’ll want to make sure that you have a back up plan in those situations.

If you’re going to use a hammock for camping, the first thing that you want to do is make sure that you buy the correct hammock for the purpose. You can get a few different types of hammocks, and some are just for chilling in throughout the day. You want to get one that’s designed specifically for sleeping, so you’ll have space to stretch and do it will be durable. It’s also a good idea to use a bug net when hammock camping since mosquitoes can get to you more easily since you’re sleeping outdoors. Finally, bring a tarp with you when you’re camping in a hammock, since you may find yourself getting a little bit damp otherwise!

Set Up Camp Near The Water

It’s very handy to set up your camp near the water if you are able to do so. For starters, it’s usually much cooler by the water. In addition to this, you can hop into the water to cool yourself down when you’re really hot. Even a little bit of a paddle in the river can cool you down, even if just a little bit.

Invest in a Tent Fan

Sometimes it can be hard to get a little extra breeze into a tent, especially if you don’t have a lot of mesh on the tent. In this case, you can get something like a portable fan to cool you down during those hot summer nights. All you need to do is follow the instructions and set it up on the ceiling of the tent and let it run to cool yourself down.

Stay Hydrated

One of the most important things to do when you’re in the hot weather is to make sure that you stay hydrated. At the absolute minimum you should be looking to drink at least 2 liters of water a day. And that’s when the weather is still relatively cool! You’ll want to increase your water intake if it’s especially hot outside, perhaps up to 3 liters or more. It can help to have a water bottle that’s marked to tell you how much to drink a day so that you can keep track more easily.

Be Careful What You Wear

Your clothing can have a big impact on keeping you cool when you’re camping! Some things that you can wear to stay cool during the summer is a hat that has a brim. Make sure that you’re wearing some sunscreen too!

In addition to this, when you’re camping in the warm weather you should try to wear lighter colors, since dark colors absorb the heat whereas light clothing can help to reflect it from you. Wear clothing that’s lightweight, but not so thin that UV rays can get through easily. It’s also better to wear looser clothing. This isn’t the time for your skin tight jeans!

What about footwear? It’s better to choose hiking sandals instead of wearing heavy boots. You don’t want sweat building up inside of your shoes. It’ll smell and your feet will feel overheated, which certainly isn’t ideal.

Have Fun!

One of the ways that you can keep cool while camping is to do a couple of fun activities! For instance, you can swim in the cold outdoor water, such as in rivers and lakes – so long as you are allowed to do so. You can also take a nice hike up to higher areas such as mountains as it’s usually much more breezy on high ground. If you’re going to exercise you should also try to do it when it’s coolest outside. You can also do things such as tubing or you can have a water balloon fight!

Conclusion

Keeping cool while you’re out camping is simple, so long as you know how to do it! Make sure you’re hydrated, wear some comfy loose clothing and get a tent with lots of mesh and you’ll be good to go!
