What Ingredients Should Be In Your Blush

If you’re like the rest of us, then blush is probably one of your go-to items in your make-up kit!

The desire to have rosy cheeks has been around for centuries! And while it is a strange one, humans have come up with a range of techniques or products to create that pink cheeky look! From the act of pinching the cheek to affordable blush makeup products, a look isn’t really complete without that youthful pink hue that so many people long for.

Great for an easy touch-up and to really complete a look, blush is a fan favorite makeup product. But have you ever wondered what goes into making blush? And what ingredients actually give your cheeks that rosy glow?

Blush, just like other makeup, can be made with good ingredients or bad ingredients. Some brands, unfortunately, use chemical agents to bind the ingredients together—which while it has good intentions can cause harm to your skin. So it is best to avoid brands that have a bunch of words on the ingredient list that you can’t pronounce, as they are likely the scientific name for man-made chemical solutions!

The best blush is natural and should really only have organic ingredients in it—no chemicals needed.

To ensure you’re investing in the best blush for both your skin and the environment, here are the ingredients that should be in your blush.

1. Fruit extracts

The majority of blush uses natural fruit and flower extracts to create that rosy hue. For example, think pomegranate extracts, rose extracts, or even beetroot powder! These ingredients are key to ensuring that the blush will have a  pink tint to add to your skin and equally gives confidence that the product is vegan!

2. Powders

To complement the pink hues of the blush, another common ingredient is powdered to lighten and darken the overall look of the blush. For a lightening effect, common ingredients include an arrowroot powder that is especially great for medium skin tones. And for a darkening effect, cacao powder is a common one—and something that even the ancient Aztecs used!

3. Natural minerals and vitamins

To further enhance the natural color tones of the blush, the best ones also have a range of antioxidants and vitamins to really help the skin naturally glow! Common ones include Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and Vitamin E, all of which are experts at brightening up the skin and adding an extra layer of brightness to your cheeks!

4. Cruelty-Free

Okay, so this one is not an actual ingredient. But it is a testing method for the ingredients that should always be followed! The makeup industry got a bad wrap for years back when it came to light that some brands were testing products on animals! Nowadays, makeup should be tested in a cruelty-free way, meaning not tested on animals! When you know that your blush was made ethically, you will feel better wearing it.

Blush is one of those makeup items that at essence, is basically a mix of natural ingredients that can be found in nature. It is the process of fine-tuning and blending them to form the perfect pink hues that make blush a commercial product worth buying!

When thinking about the history of blush, it is something that has been seen as a sign of beauty for centuries. And despite all the evolution the world has seen, the basic principles of blush and the ingredients that work best come from nature!

So the next time that you are wanting to buy blush, take the time to look at the ingredients and make sure that they are made with the natural ingredients that blush should be—ground up fruit and flower extracts, superfood powders, and antioxidants that make your skin really shine!
