Top 5 Ways to Boost Self-Esteem

For many of us, our inner confidence often wavers on a sliding scale. Some days we feel as though we belong on the cover of vogue, and other days…well we feel like the magazine dated 3 years ago on top of the table in the dentist office. On those harder days (or weeks), we often let ourselves sit in self-loathing, but that doesn’t help us get out of that head space. So, what can we do?

Get Ready

Regardless of what plans you may or may not have, get ready as though you have an important day ahead of you. Take a long shower filled with all your favorite self-care regimens. Style your hair, do your makeup (if that’s your thing), put on that outfit you’ve been wanting to wear for days. I’m not saying you have to get dressed up to go to the gala but put on something that makes you feel like you. Often times, this action of getting ready for the day is enough to pull you out of your funk and boost your self-esteem.

Take Pictures

Once you’re ready for your day (or night), take pictures! Take selfies, have a mini, personal photoshoot in your bedroom. You don’t need to go out and hire a photographer but document the moment that you felt good in your skin, embrace that energy. You’re more likely to savor and remember that feeling when you capture it on camera. Flash your Colgate smile to the camera and let the world know that you feel good! If you don’t feel that your smile is something worth showing, check out Invisalign, it’s the fastest way to give you that perfect smile and it’ll add to your self-esteem!

Do Something You Enjoy (and/or are good at)

Sometimes self esteem is about more than just the way you look, it’s about how you feel as a person. When you feel yourself doubting your abilities, go and do something that you know you are good at or at least something you enjoy doing! This action forces you to focus on something else, gets you out of your head, and you end up feeling happier and more confident in the end!

Go Out by Yourself

Although this may seem counterintuitive, going out by yourself can be one of the most rewarding experiences and is known to boost self-esteem. When you go out alone (perhaps to breakfast or dinner), you challenge society as a whole, you may also be challenging yourself. You end up doing something that scares you and (most of the time) people enjoy themselves! It’s a natural self-esteem booster!

Look in the Mirror

And tell yourself everything you love about who you are! Talk to yourself like you’re hyping up your best friend. When a self-deprecating thought pops in, immediately combat it like you would if your best friend were saying it to you about themselves. Hype yourself up! Show yourself that love!

Increasing self esteem takes more than one day, but consistently doing things you enjoy, praising yourself, taking care of yourself, can help get you on the journey of self-love!
