If you do want to be able to trade with other players, then you are going to have to get in touch with other players, before heading to a hideout to get started with the trade. You would need to keep an eye on the in-game chat in case someone mentions an item that you are looking for.
This is one of the downsides of manual trading. You are having to rely on keeping watch of the chat until the opportunity for the PoE item that you want presents itself. You will then have to hit the ‘whisper’ option so you can get their information and add it to the chat. You can then use this as a form of communication between you and the other player. There are a lot of filters if you are looking for something specific too, so you can see what league the item is being offered within and much more.
