What is a wide nose?

Published

on

wide nose

What is a wide nose when the width of the entire nose including the nostrils is greater than the distance between the eyes, we speak of a wide nose.

The nostrils should fit between the imaginary lines drawn from the inside of each eye.

The width of the bridge of the nose or “dorsum”, in turn, should be approximately 80% of the width of the nostrils.

A wide nose can develop from birth when you have a wide nasal bone and cartilage in a pyramidal structure.

Rhinoplasty for a wide nose is the plastic surgery procedure to restructure the nasal bone and reshape the cartilage, with the goal of creating a thinner and narrower nose.

We can say that a nose can be wide because of a wide nasal dorsum or nasal septum, or because the tip of the nose is wide.

Wide nose rhinoplasty for wide nasal dorsum uses the osteotomy technique to reconstruct a more proportionate nasal bridge.

The nasal tip and wide nostrils can also be narrowed as part of your wide nose rhinoplasty.

Does your wide nose bother you?

A nose can maintain a wide appearance for a number of reasons.

For many people, the lack of nasal bridge height makes the nose appear wider. This is often genetic and therefore more common in particular ethnic groups.

In other cases, an initial rhinoplasty procedure may have caused the nose to take on a wider appearance, leaving a broad nose after rhinoplasty.

Whether it is a first-time rhinoplasty or a revision nose job, cosmetic or functional nose surgery is the best way to narrow a wide nose, and often the only possible solution with long-lasting results.

How do you operate on a wide nose?

If the nose is wide due to the nasal dorsum, we perform a medial or lateral osteotomy or both to narrow the nasal bridge.

If the nose is narrowed due to a wide tip, then a reshaping of the nasal cartilages is performed.

Thinning a wide nose: types of rhinoplasties

Wide nasal dorsum: medial and/or lateral osteotomy

The nasal bone forms a pyramidal structure at the top of the nose that can be restructured during rhinoplasty. This bony nasal pyramid determines the overall shape of the nose.

To change the shape of the nose and give it a slimmer appearance, the pyramid structure must be broken into smaller, more movable pieces.

Nose jobs in wide noses are most often performed with an osteotomy to narrow the nasal bridge. During an osteotomy, the surgeon makes small breaks in the upper nasal bones to thin the nose.

There are two common types of nasal osteotomies used to thin the nose: medial and lateral.

Many wide nose rhinoplasties use both types of osteotomies to create a thinner appearance to the nasal bridge.

With the medial osteotomy, it will reshape the middle section of your nose. Medial osteotomies focus on small breaks in the middle part of the top of the nose.

In the case of lateral osteotomy, it will chisel out the outer and longer sections of the nose bone.

Once the breaks are made, we can reshape the nose by bringing the pieces closer together to create a narrower nasal structure. Although the osteotomy may seem like a fairly intense surgery, keep in mind that Dr. Mira will make very precise small breaks in the nasal bones.

Alarplasty and tip narrowing of the wide and bulbous nasal tip.

If your nose is too wide or bulbous at the tip, we can create a thinner or tapered tip with rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty for a wide nose can dramatically improve your facial appearance when the nasal tip is made narrower. Nostril width surgery, or alarplasty, can be performed as an additional procedure to correct the size and shape of your nostrils.

Several techniques can be used to refine a wide nasal tip.

The cartilage that forms a bulbous nose can be thinned and shaped.

For greater definition, cartilage can be removed from the nasal septum or from behind the ear to outline a narrower nasal tip. The patient’s own cartilage is carefully placed to produce a natural, more refined nasal silhouette.

The nostril area can also be modified to address the patient’s concerns.

In addition to the width of the nostril area, the widening of the nasal wings should be analyzed.

What is alarplasty?

Allarplasty is a surgical technique to reduce and narrow the size of the nostrils.

We remove a small piece of skin through wedge excisions, nasal sill excisions or a combination of both to achieve a balanced natural appearance and a more beautiful nose.

Features of osteotomy for the broad nasal dorsum

Wide nose surgery focuses primarily on restructuring the nasal bone. In some cases, cartilage reshaping may be performed to improve the shape of the nasal tip and nostrils.

Candidates for wide nose rhinoplasty often suffer from a flat and wide nasal bridge for genetic or ethnic reasons.

Wide nose rhinoplasty is primarily performed with the patient under general anesthesia.

The nose plastic surgery procedure can be completed in one to two hours in the operating room, depending on the extent of the surgery.

Two of the most common techniques for performing wide nose surgery are the medial osteotomy and the lateral osteotomy.

If the tip of the nose is bulbous or thick and the nostrils are flared, Dr. Mira can reshape these parts as well.

Initial recovery after your wide nose rhinoplasty will last approximately one week.

The shape of the nose will continue to improve and firm up for several months.

Do you have a wide nose and want to know more about the surgery and recovery?

Wide Nose Surgery Recovery

A nasal cast will most likely be required to ensure proper healing.

The cast can usually be removed in less than a week. At this point, the surgeon will probably prescribe nasal exercises to encourage continued healing.

It may take up to eight weeks before the newly placed nasal bones heal safely. During this time, it is extremely important to remain committed to the prescribed nasal exercises.

Postoperatively, stay in close contact with your surgeon to avoid any healing complications. The postoperative recovery strategy is another great thing to research and ask about before choosing the best possible surgeon for your wide, flat, thick-skinned nose job.

It is a good sign if the surgeon has a detailed plan that includes regular post-operative check-ups.  If the surgeon seems to lack a sense of individual post-operative care, it may be best to look elsewhere.

Before and After Rhinoplasty

Before choosing a surgeon to perform your wide nose rhinoplasty, be sure to do your research and confirm that your chosen surgeon has experience performing wide nose surgery.

An easy way to do this is to look through before and after photos, which can usually be viewed on the surgeon’s website.

Take a look at the photos and find before and after images of a rhinoplasty performed on wide noses.

Important Things To Know About Breast Augmentation In New Orleans

Published

on

Breast Augmentation

Breast implants, by far, have been the most popular procedure, despite how cosmetic plastic surgery has also steadily been on the rise. There were about 300,378 breast augmentations in the United States alone, and about 105,219 breast lifts. Breast augmentation in New Orleans has also been on the rise as of the moment. Here are important things to know about breast augmentation in New Orleans.

What is Breast Augmentation?

When you want to enhance the shape and size of your breast, then breast enhancements are performed and are primarily and traditionally done with implants. The difference between breast augmentation and breast implants is that segmentation is the procedure that they do that is necessary for breast enhancement, while implants are the mechanisms that are being used, but each of them relies on each other.

Types of Breast Implants

  1. Saline

The Saline implants are filled with sterilized salt water and are known for providing shape and feel, which are some of the important factors in making your breast as natural as possible. They are flexible in size so you could customize it to the appearance that you want it to have, and you could also detect the leak of saline easier.

They are inserted as empty shells and they would gradually add the saline until it reaches the desired size that you have discussed during the consultation. It would allow them to be more precise in the measure of the volume of each breast and make sure that your breasts are symmetrical.

  1. Structured Saline

Structured saline is the combination of both silicone and saline. The feel that the silicone would give you is natural, so added with the balance in the appearance of saline, it is a great option.

  1. Silicone

This would have to be the most common out of the three, with these implants being filled with silicone gel. The gel mimics real breast tissues, so it makes it difficult to tell if you had breast augmentation surgery. Here are

  1. Round

The round implants, on the other hand, have a consistent shape all over and they make the breast appear much fuller compared to all of the other options. The high placement of the implant could also help the patients achieve still more projection. If your breast looks deflated or out of proportion with the rest of your body, then this might be the one for you.

  1. Gummy Bear

The gummy bear version is known for having retained its shape at all times and they are also known as form-stable implants. The thick gel inside the silicone shell remains immobile even if the implant shell breaks because the gel has a thicker consistency than the traditional silicone one, and this provides a firmer shape.

  1. Textured

The textured pocket would adhere to scar tissue that would develop after surgery and this would most likely reduce any movements.

  1. Smooth

This smooth option is a good choice if you want an implant that feels silky soft. It is designed to provide a very natural movement to improve your silhouette and restore the curve, you could get breast augmentation. Usually, women who choose this procedure, for this reason, reach their goal weight, then they go through the procedure.

  1. Pregnancy

Pregnancy stretches, pulls, and deflates your breast, putting your body through these rigors until they may or may not appear like they have lost all of their volumes. This procedure could help plump up your breasts to make them look like how they were before your pregnancy.

  1. Asymmetry

Breast asymmetry is when some women have uneven breasts, with one of the breasts being significantly bigger than the other. Breast augmentation would help restore the symmetry of both of your breasts and make sure that they are both properly balanced.

Breast augmentation surgery may be able to give your body a new shape, which would boost your self-esteem and live your best life. Being able to show the world who you are and how you look with confidence is very empowering. You have to ensure and assess that this is the right thing for you and to do so, you could visit a center for plastic surgery in New Orleans for the best breast augmentation if you are interested and consult with them.

What Are the 7 Stages of Alzheimer’s Disease?

Published

on

By

Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative illness that progresses over time. As with any other type of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease impacts memory, thinking, problem-solving, language skills, personality, and movement. While dementia will impact everyone differently, most patients will eventually experience problems carrying out daily activities, having conversations, and functioning independently. The timing and severity of the disease will be different for each person, and interventions should be based on unique needs.

About 5.8 million people live with Alzheimer’s disease in the United States, and while there is no cure, there are several treatment options that can slow progression and keep the symptoms at bay for a longer time. If someone you care about has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, it is important to know how the disease impacts them and what types of things you can expect. Doctors have developed different stages of illness to determine the disease’s progression.

Understanding what stage your loved one is in will help you provide interventions to help them with daily life. So, what are the 7 stages of Alzheimer’s? Let’s look at the Global Deterioration Scale developed to classify the disease.

Stage 1: No Dementia

img

The first stage of dementia is when a person is considered mentally healthy, free of any objective or subjective symptoms. This stage has no noticeable decline, behavioral changes, or major mood variations. Stage one is considered to be normal.

Stage 2: No Impairment

Stage two is consistent with subjective memory loss or age-related forgetfulness. As many people age, they can have trouble recalling places or remembering a name from long ago. Very early Alzheimer’s can look similar to normal age-related forgetfulness. If you notice that memory lapses become more frequent, this could signify stage two Alzheimer’s disease. There are usually no impairments, and patients can still drive, work, and socialize normally.

Stage 3: Mild Impairment

More than just forgetfulness, individuals with stage three Alzheimer’s usually begin to experience interruptions to daily routines and activities. Your loved one may not be able to remember recent conversations, experience decreased organization skills, and have difficulties in social or work settings. This stage may also induce some anxiety and feelings of denial, leading to depression.

Stage 4: Cognitive Decline

img

Also known as early-stage Alzheimer’s disease, a definitive diagnosis can be made with great accuracy at this stage. The most significant symptom at this stage is a person’s inability to manage complex activities for daily life. The stage can last for many years and see patients struggle with day and time recognition, changes in sleep patterns, and tasks such as dressing themselves. You might also notice significant personality changes and feelings of suspiciousness because of the damage to the brain cells.

Stage 5: Moderately Severe Cognitive Decline

Patients in stage five will typically experience increased difficulties performing daily tasks and severe memory deficits. Usually, people with stage five Alzheimer’s can no longer manage daily activities and require regular care and attention. Stage five patients will have trouble remembering significant people and parts of their lives. They will need assistance with tasks such as going to the bathroom, bathing, and eating.

Stage 6: Severe Decline

Stage six symptoms build upon those experienced in stage five. Your loved one may experience increased difficulty with communicating and remembering current information. Significant personality changes and increased depression and frustration might also be evident during this stage of the disease. Patients in stage six will have trouble responding to their environment.

Stage 7: Severe Dementia

During the final stage of Alzheimer’s, most will have lost their ability to speak or communicate. They will also usually require around-the-clock care as they will experience a severe lack of mobility and physical control. Your loved one may even be unresponsive for large portions of the day.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive illness that will gradually get worse. Once a diagnosis has been made, it will be important to stay in touch with the health care team to help your loved one feel as comfortable and safe as possible.
