Machine Learning for Kids

Machine Learning is a rapidly growing technology. Machine Learning is one of the most used applications of Artificial Intelligence. In Machine Learning, we give access to the data to machines and let them use that data to learn to perform tasks for themselves. This data can include machine learning algorithms or any raw set of data. 

What is Machine Learning?

Machines will go through that data set and learn to perform tasks based on that data. This process is basically to perform a task by computer without explicitly programming the task. 

You may have played with robots in your childhood or your kids might be playing with them nowadays. Do you know the working behind the robots? It was an algorithm or a set of instructions that tells the machine to perform a specific task at that specific moment. 

The robots were coded with algorithms which is a computer’s thought process to perform a task. So, machine learning was used in this situation where the robot itself could decide to perform a task. 

So, rather than coding software with its instructions, In machine learning, an algorithm does this which trains the machine to learn how to make decisions for itself in a situation.

Working on Machine Learning?

As we just discussed what machine learning is. It is about training the machine with an algorithm. And for that purpose, we need a neural network. The algorithm that we build for machine learning will be inspired by biological neural networks. 

After we develop an algorithm, we need to provide the algorithm to that machine so that it can learn the set of instructions to perform the desired tasks itself.

Machine Learning for Kids:

It’s beneficial to introduce machine learning to kids because they are not only the ones who will invent new machine learning models. But kids are the ones who will use machine learning and can be affected by it. 

Various platforms help students train simple-machine learning models. Kids are of small age and can learn new things easily. Machine Learning is an interesting topic and kids will take interest in developing machine learning models by themselves. So, kids must be taught machine learning. 

To make kids familiar with Machine Learning, you should take courses relevant for kids. You can start training kids for machine learning from scratch such that they will get familiar with the process of applying machine learning models. Games are also a great way to introduce kids to machine learning. The kids can easily train a machine learning model in a fun way as they know very well playing games. The development of a machine learning model is just like playing a game for them. 

Gaining new skills with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will provide kids exposure to coding and can develop problem-solving skills in them. The minds of kids are creative and it will be easy for them to learn new things. Kids are always curious to learn new skills that seem interesting just like a game for them and it will help them get exposure to coding and machine learning. 

There are several projects for kids to start creating Machine Learning models. But kids should not directly start working on these projects as it will be difficult for them to directly start working on them. First, they need to understand these projects and create a picture of how machine learning works behind an algorithm. These projects are very interesting so that kids will take an interest to know more about them. These projects include:

  • Self-Driving Cars: Self-driving cars are becoming a very popular project nowadays. Kids are very curious to know more about these things related to technologies, so it will be easy for them to start learning how our scientists or tech-enthusiasts are working on this project to train cars for self-driving cars. This project will give a brief exposure to kids in machine learning. 
  • Movie ticket pricing prediction: A machine learning model can be used to predict ticket pricing which is useful for ticket booking. This project is a dynamic project that will predict the pricing of the movie tickets based on the location, movie theatres, and the category of movie. The movie ticket pricing prediction model will help kids to learn how they can create a prediction model. 
  • Fake news detection model: The fake news detection model is very popular and useful. It helps to detect if the news is fake or not. In this era, fake news spreads like real news and it should be detected whether the news is fake or real. So, this model is very interesting and useful too. This model will help kids to learn how they can train a machine to detect fake news through various resources. 
  • Music Recommendation Machine learning model: Most people like to listen to music and some apps give us their music recommendations based on our taste of listening to songs. It is just a machine learning model that learned from our habits of listening. And starts recommending music to us. This project will help kids learn how to train a model with continuous input of data in real-time. 
  • Handwriting Classification Model: The kids nowadays are technology lovers and they love new technologies. So, this project can be a good choice for them to start machine learning with. Though kids used to go to school, they used to write their homework on notebooks, paper, etc. So, this project might be somewhat related to their study. The handwriting classification model will classify what is written in the handwritten text. 

Conclusion:

Kids who are even at primary school age can understand the basic principles of the machine learning model and they can easily learn to build fun projects. So, it is important and beneficial for kids to start creating Machine Learning Models. Some fun machine learning projects which are like training a computer to play games might seem interesting for kids. Kids are always curious and enthusiastic to learn new things, so if they learn how to code at the age of primary school, it will be beneficial to create their interest in programming. As they grow with time, they will learn new skills in programming and when they become younger, it will be easy for them to create high-level machine learning models.
