How to Write a Pro Cover Letter with Samples

Published

on

When applying for a job, your cover letter acts as your personal introduction, and it’s important you make a good first impression. Too often, applicants fail to put enough thought into their cover letter or, even worse, don’t include one at all.

Writing an engaging, effective cover letter isn’t as complicated as you may think. Here’s what to include, cover letter templates, and everything else you need to know to grab the attention of employers.

An Overview of Writing a Cover Letter

The secret to crafting a pro cover letter starts before you write a single word. You want to read and re-read the job description carefully. By understanding what specific skills the employer seeks, you can adjust your cover letter accordingly. Always use the job description as the basic foundation for your cover letter.

The Five Main Elements of a Pro Cover Letter

Although cover letters are short (one page or less), every element plays an important role. Your cover letter should include the following sections:

  • Greeting
  • Introduction
  • Body
  • Conclusion
  • Sign-off

Let’s take a closer look at each one.

Greeting

Stick to a traditional “Dear” for the salutation. “Hey,” “Hi,” and similar greetings sound too casual for the professional tone you want to convey.

Ideally, you’ll have the hiring manager’s name, so you can address them as Mrs. Smith, Mr. Jones, etc. You can also address them by their full name, such as Dear John Smith.

Introduction

In the first two or three sentences, introduce yourself and explain why you’re interested in the job. Emphasize all the skills and experience you have that directly relate to the position. (Also, state where you saw the job posting, as HR managers love that information.)

You want to create a hook, which is a unique attribute you have that makes you perfect for the job. This isn’t the time to be shy or modest. Instead, you want to describe your most valuable assets right away.

Body

The body of the cover letter should consist of three to five paragraphs. You want to elaborate on your previous work accomplishments as they relate to the job you’re applying for. Back up these achievements with hard data. Also, avoid simply repeating the information from your CV.

Include as many exact keywords as possible from the job posting. You want your letter to read as if you wrote it specifically for the employer. Any language that’s too generic can make it seem like you send the same cover letter to everybody.

(Don’t mention salary in your cover letter, as that negotiation will take place later in the hiring process.)

Conclusion

Finally, you’ll want to wrap up your cover letter with a call to action. Say that you’re looking forward to speaking with them soon. Invite them to call you directly.

It’s okay to act confident here. Use language that implies you’re a good candidate for the job and that the employer definitely will want to talk with you further. Avoid anything that reads wishy-washy, such as “I hope to hear from you soon.”

Sign-Off

As with the introduction, you want to avoid sounding too formal or too casual. The basics are fine:

  • Sincerely,
  • Regards,
  • Thanks!

You can also include a quick PS. For example, “PS: I can’t wait to tell you about the time I saved my previous employer over $50,000 annually by switching product suppliers!”

Cover Letter Templates

Regardless of the type of industry and the specific position you’re applying for, all successful cover letters have many similarities, which you’ll want to emulate. At the same time, most unsuccessful cover letters contain similar mistakes, which you’ll want to avoid.

Let’s take a look at two cover letter templates – one that will help you find a job and another with mistakes you’ll want to avoid.

Pro Cover Letter Template

Follow the general language, tone, and structure of this pro cover letter:

Date

Your Name

Address

Phone

Email

Dear First Name Last Name,

I was so excited to see your Indeed job posting for the Widget Production Supervisor at Company Name. As someone with over eight years of experience in all aspects of Widget production, including in supervisory roles, I know I can help Company achieve even greater success in the industry.

Most recently, as a Widget Production Supervisor for Previous Company, I delivered the following results:

Streamlined production processes, resulting in over $8,000 in quarterly savings.

Implemented employee benefit programs that improved retention rates by 25%.

Created an online customer portal that improved order efficiency and reduced shipping errors by 20%.

Joining your team would present an amazing opportunity to further advance my knowledge of Widget Production in a company culture that reflects my personal values.

I can’t wait to discuss all the ways I can use my skills to help Company Name reach a whole new level.

Sincerely,

Your Name

The cover letter continually adds new information about the candidate while also highlighting their skills. It also uses confident, clear language.

Poorly-Written Cover Letter

Avoid the elements used in this bad cover letter:

To Whom It May Concern, [Too formal and impersonal]

I would love to work for Company! [Too vague]

I have ten years of experience in the Widget industry. For five years, I worked on Widget assembly before transferring into a supervisory role for Widget production. Additionally, I have a degree in Widgets from the University of Idaho. [Not specific to the company or job description.]

I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience! [Too passive]

Catch ya later, [Too informal]

Your Name

The bulk of the cover letter essentially re-words the candidate’s resume, which is information the employer already has. Instead, the cover letter should provide new information about the candidate’s skills and explain how those skills can help the employer.

Final Thoughts

The job market is undergoing tremendous changes, as record numbers of people are quitting their current jobs in search of better working conditions and more money elsewhere. If you’re looking for a new job, you’re in luck because many opportunities are available with companies in practically every industry.

To stand apart from other job seekers, and get a job interview, you’ll need to craft an engaging and professional cover letter. Remember: Let the job post act as your guide, provide concrete examples of past successes, and emphasize how your skill set will directly benefit the company.

By following the cover letter templates and guidelines above, you can drastically improve your chances of landing the fulfilling and high-paying job of your dreams!

What are E-learning Authoring Tools?

Published

on

E-learning authoring tools allow educators to spend time re-creating personalized e-learning systems that would work effectively in their own classrooms. Different types of e-learning authoring tools are available in the market. It can also be used for school ratings. These include:

PowerPoint-based tools: These are add-ins in PowerPoint that works as an e-learning tool. This offers an easy method for educators as they only need to convert PowerPoint presentations into e-learning modules. This will be a social media site for teachers.

Standalone authoring tools: These tools may require lots of time to master because users often need to begin with the preliminary training. Some standalone authoring tools may also need users to have programming skills to create their own personalized training content. It also helps teachers find education jobs.

Highly-specialized authoring tools: For educators looking to develop video content or incorporate software simulations, highly-specialized authoring tools are an ideal option.

Cloud-based authoring tools: Cloud-based authoring tools are easy to manage as users can start working immediately after logging in. Although each of these tools comes with its own functionalities, it gives educators the flexibility to create web-styled content.

Some major benefits of using e-learning authoring tools include:

Ability to repurpose existing content: E-learning authoring tools give educators the ability to repurpose all learning materials they currently have, as long as they’re in digital formats. For instance, instead of redesigning an interactive scenario, they can simply modify the existing one and upload it to the e-learning platform.I consider myself to be an expert when it comes to edtech.

Anyone can create engaging content: One of the biggest advantages of these tools is that anybody can use them to design immersive and engaging e-learning content. Some e-learning authoring tools are ideal for e-learning course developers without any prior design experience. You might want to use an app that helps students study. These tools give them the power to create unique content, interactive learning materials, and multimedia presentations for any subject matter.

Reduced course development time: Most e-learning authoring tools appear with a large selection of e-learning themes, templates, and objects that educators can use to build their e-learning courses quickly. These tools also make e-learning course development possible, especially for professionals who aren’t familiar with coding and graphic design.

Ability to publish the content on different platforms: Most authoring tools let users publish their content on different platforms, from mobile devices and tablets to laptops. Modern learners want information anywhere, anytime, and educators can make this possible via e-learning authoring tools.

Stress-free deployment: E-learning authoring tools allow educators to conveniently and quickly deliver their e-learning course content to all the members of their audience. One of my favorite things to teach was PEMDAS.They can upload the content to different e-learning websites and deploy it on any device or browser.

Concluding thoughts

I hope we did a good job explaining the ins and outs of elearning tools. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to leave them below. We will be sure to get back to you in a timely manner.

What You Need To Know About Ethiopian Coffee Beans

Published

on

By

In this article, you are going to learn more about why Ethiopian coffee beans are so interesting to learn about, and why the country is worth the visit for coffee enthusiasts around the world.

Ethiopia might not be as big as Brazil and Colombia when it comes to the production of the international supply of coffee beans, but they are well-known to be one of the best countries if you want to get coffee. Coffee enthusiasts from all over the world visit this place in order to get its own unique strain of coffee beans, and simply because the coffee beans here are also superb in terms of its growth and overall quality.

After all, Ethiopia is considered as the country where coffee itself was found, and has its deep historical roots on how it got discovered. Some may think that coffee was found in
Colombia, but the country learned about coffee back in the 18th century only. But in the case of Ethiopia, coffee was discovered way back in the 9th century. Ever since then, Ethiopia became home to a wide variety of coffee beans, where some gained international fame and even became a signature coffee bean of other countries as these countries refined their ways of cultivating it.

The Renowned History Of Coffee Beans

It is not actually official if it’s true or not, but even neighboring countries claim the legend that Ethiopia was the place where coffee was first found. Believe it or not, it’s not some trader or researcher who stumbled upon this amazing fruit, but a goat farmer! Back in the 9th century, a goat farmer accidentally discovered the cherries of the coffee bean plant when he saw his goats consume it. He noticed his goats got too energetic unlike before when they never consumed the coffee beans. afr

As a result, he got curious if it also gives the same energy-granting properties to humans. That’s why he took some and shared it to the local monks in this place. Of course, they never know how to brew the fruit yet, so they consumed it first and realized that it can really grant them energy in a safe way. Over time, the method of consuming coffee beans eventually became the popular way that we all know about: turning it into an energizing and aromatic drink. As time passed by, word spread out about the properties of coffee and eventually gained worldwide fame that we all know about today.

Personally, this story about the discovery of coffee is really intriguing because who would expect that it was a farmer who discovered the wonders of the coffee beans by accident. History surely has a lot of unusual happenings that eventually laid an impact to a lot of people even to this day, and coffee seems to be one of them if this story is true.

The Importance Of Coffee In Ethiopia

The importance of Ethiopian coffee beans is not just all about the history that it had, and not just their strains that has a fruity flavor into it. The coffee industry of Ethiopia supplies 3% of the world’s overall coffee production. It might not be as huge as what Brazil can offer, but Ethiopia is still one of the holders of the industry’s foundation. Also, the U.S. happens to be one of the top buyers of Ethiopian coffee beans which are considered as the best African coffee beans.

In terms of the geographical importance of coffee in the country, take note that there are more than 1,500 square miles worth of coffee farms scattered throughout the country that’s dedicated for the cultivation and production of coffee beans. Just note the fact that the mountains where the farms are located have an altitude of up to 2,000 meters above the sea level. This environment is enough to grow the finest quality coffee beans. But of course, this also means that some of their coffee bean strains are considered as a luxury item due to its superb quality.

Types Of Ethiopian Coffee Beans

To get to know more about the strains that they grow here, take note of the following below:

  • Longberry – These are large coffee beans that have a lot of body with a decent aroma and flavor. These are also called as Harrar coffee beans because of the region where it grows to.
  • Mocha – Mocha is a well-known flavor around the world, and is often used in sweets because of its chocolate notes. The original Mocha coffee beans are highly-prized and can only be found in the Harrar region as well.  Some also say that this the variant of the Harrar coffee bean that has a spicy note in it.
  • Shortberry – The shortberry coffee beans are high-quality beans that has a very strong flavor that has a note of wine.

Ethiopia is a go-to if you are curious about the more exquisite, or even exotic, types of coffee to try out. This is worth marking on your map if you love to travel as a coffee enthusiast, or if you just want to travel and see the specialties that each country has in store for you.

How do they make Nitrous Oxide?

Published

on

By

Before we get to how they make nitrous oxide, we first got to learn what is Nitrous Oxide? Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, nitrous, N2O, or nos, or nangs is a chemical compound, an oxide of nitrogen with the formula N2O. At room temperature or the temperature that adapted to its surroundings, it is a colorless non-flammable gas, that gives off a slight metallic scent and taste. At elevated temperatures or above normal oral temperature, nitrous oxide is a powerful oxidizer similar to molecular oxygen. Nitrous oxide has significant medical uses, more so present in surgery and dentistry, for its anesthetic and pain numbing effects. Better known by the masses as “laughing gas”, it received this name due to the euphoric effects a person experiences after inhaling it, with this property that has led to its use as a anesthetic. You can readily buy laughing gas but only for culinary purposes.

It is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines, the safest and most effective medicines needed in a health system. Though it became popular as an anesthetic, nitrous oxide has so many other uses. It increases internal combustion engine power, serves as an oxidizer in experiments including chemicals and rockets, and it also acts as a propellant for foods including cooking spray and whipped cream, and has multiple uses in medicine showing that it has its flexibility in uses as a chemical compound.

After learning what is Nitrous Oxide, How does someone produce said gas? The basic and safe method to make nitrous oxide at home or in a small lab was discovered by a chemist named Humphry Davy. Davy discovered that through heating ammonium nitrate, it decomposes into nitrous oxide and water vapor:

NH4NO3 (s) → 2 H2O (g) + N2O (g)

While simple, it’s crucial to gently adjust the heat of ammonium nitrate between 170 °C to 240 °C (338 °F to 464 °F). Exceeding the maximum temperature leads to rapid decomposition and the glass container to shatter due to reaching its breaking point. Use small amounts of ammonium nitrate then control the temperature with a thermometer just to be safe.

1. Place a small amount of ammonium nitrate in a test tube. Cap the test tube with a one-hole stopped. Insert plastic or glass tubing into the hole and run it into a hot water bath. The water needs to be hot because nitrous oxide dissolves in cold water, reducing the amount collected. Collect the bubbles in an inverted jar. This setup for collecting gases is called a pneumatic trough. It condenses water produced by the reaction and removes impurities, like smoke.

2. Once you’ve set up the equipment, slowly heat the ammonium nitrate. You can do this over a flame or burner. Apply heat so that it does not exceed the maximum temperature and so it produces gas bubbles at the rate of one to two bubbles per second.

3. Stop heating the ammonium nitrate before all of it has decomposed. This helps prevent overheating. Turn off the heat and disconnect the tubing from the collection jar so that water won’t flow up into it. Cover the container before turning it upright, so you won’t lose the gas. You can seal the container while it is inverted or simply cover it with a flat sheet of plastic or glass before turning it over. The gas in the container is nitrous oxide, plus smaller amounts of other nitrogen oxides, such as nitric oxide and nitrogen monoxide. Exposure to air oxidizes the nitric oxide to form nitrous oxide.

This procedure is commonly used for commercial preparation of nitrous oxide, with acid and base treatments to further purify the gas.

In 1772, another method for making nitrous oxide was discovered by Joseph Priestley and he became the first person to synthesize nitrous oxide. Priestly collected the gas produced by sprinkling nitric acid over iron filings. While an effective method, this method is better attempted in a lab by scientists because nitric acid should be used under a fume hood, with proper gear to avoid accidents. Another method to make nitrous oxide in the home or lab is to heat a mixture of sodium nitrate and ammonium sulfate. Again, collect the gas using a pneumatic trough. Heating this mixture is even safer than decomposing ammonium nitrate.

2 NaNO3 + (NH4)2SO4 → Na2SO4 + 2 N2O+ 4 H2O

The chemical reaction between urea, nitric acid, and sulfuric acid also produces nitrous oxide.

2 (NH2)2CO + 2 HNO3+ H2SO4 → 2 N2O + 2 CO2 + (NH4)2SO4 + 2H2O

Here are tips to prepare nitrous oxide safely:

– Never exceed the temperature when heating ammonium nitrate over 240 °C or 464 °F.

– Turn of the heating apparatus before the last bit of ammonium nitrate has decomposed.

– Use the highest purity ammonium nitrate available for the safest method. Pure ammonium nitrate is more stable than ammonium nitrate with impurities.

– Perform the project in a lab or in a well-ventilated area if at home. Overexposure can be fatal.

Due to the dangers difficulty involved in making nitrous oxide yourself you will most likely want to just buy nitrous oxide from an online seller and have it delivered to you.

How to Become a Life Coach

Published

on

You may have a passion for helping others pursue what makes them happy in life. Whether giving advice on a career change or how to overcome an obstacle, you thrive at helping people. Friends may have mentioned that you’d make an excellent life coach, and you’re ready to give it a shot!

To follow your dreams and become a life coach, here are some tips on how to get started.

1. Figure Out What Your Goals Are

Before diving into building your business, first, you should set some goals.

It’s essential to keep in mind that with any business, getting things rolling takes time. But the good news is that by having goals, you’ll have a clear starting point.

So work on coming up with some personal and financial goals. An example of a specific goal might be to get 15 new clients in two months.

Don’t make your goals unrealistic, but at the same time challenge yourself. After a few months have gone by, you’ll have a better idea of how things are going. From there, you can adjust your goals accordingly.

2. Consider How Much You Want to Spend on Startup Costs

Do you know how much becoming a life coach will cost? Before jumping in headfirst, it’s vital to understand how much money you want to spend.

If it’s a side hustle for you, you likely won’t have to spend a lot. But say you want life coaching to be your full-time profession. Then, you may need to fork out more money upfront.

You don’t have to spend a lot initially, but there are a few things you should budget for. For example, setting up a website would be a good idea. Spending money on advertising would also be helpful.

Advertising will help you get website traffic. Setting up ads is essential so that people learn more about you and your services. So, look into setting up an account on Google and Facebook.

It would help if you also considered getting business insurance. Liability insurance, in particular, is essential. With liability insurance, you’d have protection if you got sued for not giving good advice.

3. Use Social Media to Your Advantage

Advertising your services on sites like Facebook and Instagram certainly has its advantages as well. It’s effective because it drives traffic, but organic traffic is just as important! So with that being said, focus your attention on building a following on social media.

Social media is tricky, though. It’s impossible to be active on every social media platform. Being too involved often results in getting burned out

So, it’s up to you to do some research and figure out where your audience hangs out the most. For example, if your audience tends to spend their time on Instagram, make an effort to be more active there. The same goes for LinkedIn.

Wherever potential customers are engaging, you should engage alongside them. If the opportunity presents itself, you can mention your services. Although, don’t feel like you have to be overly proactive. Frequently getting into a conversation with someone is enough. They’ll likely click over to your profile and learn more about you since you’ve been chatting.

4. Write on a Blog

As a life coach, you have a lot to offer! One way to showcase your skills is by starting a blog on your website. You can cover an array of topics, from how to jumpstart your business to how to recover from hardship.

Having a blog on your site offers other benefits, as well. For example, you can add ads to your site and use affiliate marketing as well. Promoting products and services from other companies can earn you money.

Besides earning money, affiliate advertising has another perk. You get to share the products that you believe in with your readers!

Having your blog gives you the power to choose what topics you want to discuss. Being in charge also gives you the final say on things like what type of products you wish to promote.

The truth is there really are no disadvantages to starting a blog on your website!

5. Continue Your Education

You may or may not decide to get a life coach certification. If you do, it’ll benefit you in the long run. You’ll be able to tell your clients that you’re certified in the area you’re coaching them in. Once they learn of your expertise, they’ll likely have more confidence in you! And they may be more willing to refer you to their friends as well!

Besides getting a certification, consider continuing your education in other ways. A few ways to soak up more knowledge are by reading, attending seminars, and going to workshops. You can also join Facebook groups and connect with other professionals in your field.

Honing your skills is something you should focus on as it will allow you to grow. Better yet, you’ll be able to provide better services to your clientele.

Conclusion

Becoming a life coach is no doubt a fulfilling career. You get to help people overcome obstacles and reach their highest potential.

It may take a while for you to get your coaching business up and running. But once you get the hang of things, you’ll find great success doing what you love!
