How to Stay Productive During the Holidays

During the holiday season, you might have trouble focusing on work due to thinking about what you need to get done once you get off work or what you’re going to do with your time off. This can cause trouble in the workplace as often businesses need to get important projects done before the end of the year. To stay productive, take these strategies in mind.

Shopping at Work

With online shopping available for pretty much any present you need, it might be tempting to get your shopping done once you are at work. To block out any attempts at shopping, think about talking to the IT professionals you work with to ensure that the internal work network makes it so that no shopping sites can be reached by you. For those working from home, you can find various programs and browser extensions that block shopping websites for you so you’ll be forced to focus on work. Ensure that you limit your shopping at work if you want to get more work done during the holiday season.

Black Friday

To benefit not only you saving time that you would be shopping at work but your wallet as well, think about shopping for presents during Black Friday. Black Friday refers to the day after Thanksgiving in which holiday shopping is known to “officially” start which means that businesses tend to up deals that bring out consumers in droves. In recent years, Black Friday has been easier than ever with most retailers offering the same deals online as they would in-stores so that you don’t have to worry about wasting time and gas going around shopping for your family. Make sure that you stay productive by getting your shopping done early through Black Friday deals.

Focus

Dividing your time into strict working time along with breaks on the side can help boost your productivity. To do this, implement time that you’ll be working for say 2 hours at a time before taking a 10-minute break. This helps give your brain a break so that it’s ready for you to work more time interrupted, saving you more time than just messing around all through the day.

Invites

Whether it be a family dinner or party, getting holiday invites can be stressful as you may want to say yes to all of them even if you don’t have time. It’s important that you at least say no to some of them so that you aren’t stressing too hard, giving you little time to actually enjoy the events that you’re going to attend. Making it up to people you say no to can be easy like dropping off a holiday gift to them or asking if they want to hang out sometime after the holiday season is over. Ensure that you deal with invites properly so you end up staying productive and not stressed.

Procrastination
Productivity not only means how much time you put into work but how quickly you get it done. Depending on your personality, you may be the type to put everything off at the last minute meaning that you’re going to be rushing to finish all of your work during a time you should be relaxing before the holidays start. To avoid procrastination, plan all of your work into smaller blocks that you can take on early on in the holiday season so that you’re more willing to not put that work off. You can also utilize a digital to-do list. For those that need more help, maybe plan on making some days where you accomplish your tasks with someone else as you might be more willing to undergo work if you would be letting someone down otherwise. Overcoming procrastination is a difficult but feasible task during the holidays.
