How to Remove Paint from Floor Tiles

Spilled some paint on tiles while Painting? Worry not. We’ve got you covered. Use one of the following methods to remove the unwanted paint drops from your tiles.

Removing paint from tiles is easier than it sounds. The suitable method will work like a charm – Caution: if the tile’s glaze has crack or webbing, it may worsen the situation. Tiles are made to bear harsh chemicals, but different tiles have different glazes. Hard glaze can bear industrial chemical removers, and soft glaze will need homemade cleaners.

Caution: Use safety goggles, wear gloves and a mask.

Method 1: Paint Thinner (Best)

Items required: Scrub Pad (with/without sponge), Paint Thinner, and Clean Cloth.

Step 1: Take a Damp clean cloth and clean any dirt or dust off the tiles. Preferably dry the tiles with a dry cloth.

Step 2: Take a Scrub pad and pour some thinner over the pad or the tiles affected area. Use the scrub pad with thinner at an inconspicuous area to make sure it doesn’t damage the tile. If the tile withstands the scrub pad, Pour some Paint thinner on the pad and start scrubbing the area. Apply pressure if necessary. The paint should come off fairly quickly.

Step 3: Clean the area with a clean damp cloth. If there is still some paint left, then repeat the process until you achieve the desired result. This method also works for paint for wood floor.

Method 2: Scrapping

Items required: Clean Cloth, Scrapper (utility Knife)

Step 1: Clean the area thoroughly with a damp cloth.

Step 2: Test the scrapper on an inconspicuous area to see if it damages the tile. Use the scraper at a 45-degree angle, start pealing the paint, and the paint should come off quickly.

Step 3: Clean the area and Repeat if necessary. If the paint doesn’t come off, go to method 3.

Method 3: Heat Gun

Items required: Heat Gun, Cloth, and Scrapper

Step 1: Use a Heat Gun on the affected area to loosen the dried-out paint. Constantly move the heat gun around to prevent overheating of a small space.

Step 2: Once the area is heated, use the scrapper on the paint. It should peel right off.

Step 3: Clean the area with a clean cloth. Repeat if necessary.

Method 4: Industrial Paint Remover

Items required: Paint Remover, Cloth,

Step 1: Use Paint remover cautiously as it may damage the tile; use the paint remover in an inconspicuous area to test if the tile can withstand the paint remover.

Step 2: Pour Paint Remover on the affected area and use a plastic scraper to remove the paint from the tile. Use a cloth to clean the area and repeat the process to achieve the desired result.

Step 3: once the desired result is achieved, use soapy clean water to clean the tiles thoroughly to remove any remaining paint remover to prevent it from damaging the tiles.
