How to prepare a perfect Ristretto?

Coffee lovers have always worried about a question: how to drink this drink every day, but without affecting health. The Italians learned how to solve this problem and offered the world aromatic ristretto coffee. I drink about 10 cups of this drink and it still feels great. Although it is too concentrated, strong and bitter, it is perfectly safe for your health because it does not contain caffeine.

The whole secret lies in the technology of its preparation: in the first 15 seconds of processing the coffee beans, harmful caffeine does not have time to enter the drink and is saturated exclusively with coffee essential oils.

Ristretto coffee can be easily called “a drink in one gulp”. After all, the portion is only between 15 and 30 ml maximum.

What other names does this “Ristretto” coffee have?

The truly noble Italian drink, Risretto. It differs from other types of coffee by the following characteristics:

  • is the strongest;
  • boiled in a minimal amount of water;
  • very concentrated;
  • it has a dense film, without white spots;
  • it has a fairly thick consistency.

This drink has many names: double espresso (due to its strength), semi-espresso (due to volume), corto, shot, shrank and laityrelli. There is no caffeine in its composition, because, as stated above, alkaloids do not have time to be released in 15 minutes of restricted extraction. It needs more time for that. Only essential oils go into the coffee.

This drink is necessarily prepared in a special coffee machine, which ignites a little faster than it is necessary to make, for example, espresso. It is quite difficult to make ristretto coffee in the turkish way and, in most cases, it does not work.

Short history

Ristretto is an incredibly delicious coffee drink. If we translate the meaning of this word from Italian, then it means “strong, thick, limited”. This is true because this coffee:

  • Is the strongest coffee drink;
  • has a sufficient density;
  • boiled in a limited amount of water.

A ristretto is half the size of  a standard espresso. I drink it in one or two sips, without even sitting at the table. It is not desirable to add sugar to this drink, as it will only spoil the real taste.

Italians drink a lot of coffee a day. Sometimes 7-8 cups a day. Ristretto coffee is a real advantage for connoisseurs of this drink, because it does not contain caffeine.

How to choose the right grains?

Professional Italian baristas claim that dark or medium roasted beans are ideal for ristretto coffee. The coffee machine’s horn must be dry, so it’s important to wipe it off with moisture or water drops first.

For a coffee machine, medium ground beans are best suited for Arabica or finely ground for Robusta. Sometimes gourmets experiment and mix the above two varieties to create an unforgettable aromatic drink.

Ristretto coffee: how to prepare it correctly?

For a real ristretto, only freshly ground beans are presented. This drink has the following characteristics:

  • it has a fairly dense film;
  • there are no white spots in it.

This indicates, first of all, that the coffee does not contain caffeine.

In addition, this type of coffee drink is also distinguished by the special portion in which it is served. It is brought in small glass cups with a glass of cold water. Although many experts say that you should still take water at room temperature to avoid problems with tooth enamel. Water is what helps to reveal the real and unique taste of this aromatic coffee.

Ristretto: recipe for cooking

This drink needs following ingredients:

  • freshly ground fresh coffee beans – about 8-9 g;
  • drinking water – about 30 ml;
  • granulated sugar is added to taste.

Result: 30 ml ristretto.

Another recipe requires the following amounts of ingredients:

  • ground coffee – 10 g;
  • drinking water – 15 ml.
  • Output: 15 ml of this coffee.

So how do you make a ristretto in a coffee machine?

First, grind the coffee beans evenly in a coffee grinder.

Then the coffee machine horn is wiped and the coffee is transferred there.

It must be properly stamped with a templar.

To set the desired temperature, it is important to first pass hot water through the coffee in the cup for a few seconds. This will warm him up.

After that, attach the horn to the coffee machine and turn on the water flow for 3 seconds. There is enough time to soften the coffee well. Some coffee machines have a special soaking function. If you do not do this, the coffee will not be so flavorful and will not turn out well.

Extraction of the coffee takes only 15 to 30 seconds. The result should be a delicious coffee with a volume of 15 to 30 ml.

It is the time of coffee bean extraction that distinguishes the ristretto from the espresso.

Proper coffee serving

This delicious coffee is served as follows:

  • in a small cup without handles;
  • in an espresso cup.

Because this drink is very concentrated, has a strong, rather bitter and rich taste, a glass of cold water must be served with it.

Before the first sip from the ristretto, the gourmets drink a little water. It is believed that this cleanses the taste buds and prevents dehydration. Drinking water before each sip of ristretto will allow you to enjoy the aroma of this drink with every drop.

Experts say that this method of drinking the coffee has a disadvantage: hot liquid and cold water can damage tooth enamel. But it should be noted that Italians do not think much about this and drink very delicious coffee.

This drink is often used to make cocktails, cappuccino, and latte.

Also, the rule of bad taste is to add sugar to this drink. This additive, only spoils the taste of real ristretto coffee.

The above drink is a real breakthrough for a gourmet with coffee. The unparalleled taste and aroma of the restaurant certainly win the hearts of many coffee lovers.
