In case you are using old boxes, make sure they are strong and have no creases. The used boxes sometimes have torn areas which would be unsafe for the lamp.

Things to be taken care of

Before you start the process of packing, make sure you remove the extra stuff present on the lamp. It comprises light bulbs, lampshades, and any detachable or moving pieces.  If you comprise of the original boxes which are there for the light bulbs, you can put up the light bulb in the same packaging and go ahead with the further process. If you are not having the original packaging, then it will be a great idea to leave the light bulb and buy new ones at the new destination. However, if you still want to carry the bulb you need to pack each one of them separately. You can make use of paper by forming several layers along with the bubble wrap. You can also use wide cardboard tubing that will also be a great way to pack.

For the soft lampshades, you can stack all of them together and pack them in a box. It is recommended that you only pack the shades and light bulbs in a box without making use of anything else. If you need to put up other items in the box, you can choose soft things like sheets, curtains, towels, and other bedding. However, for the glass lampshades, you need to be more careful. Make use of bubble wrap and packing paper before you put them up in a box. Try to put them up in a tight box so that the shades don’t bump.

Details about the packing process

Remove the harp

Almost all the lamps have a harp. It is basically a u-shaped metal or plastic frame that is required to hold up the lampshade. In particular, the harp is the cover that surrounds the light bulb. There are two types of harps. One has a screw and the other one is fitted with pressure. Remove it gently and put a label on it so that you don’t mix it with the harps of other lamps.

Take care of the lamp cord

The cord of the lamp should be packed properly so that it is not damaged during the move. You can secure it by taping up a small piece of bubble wrap all around the prongs, and then cautiously wrap and the cord and tape it.  Make sure you don’t cover the tight corners and harsh kinks present in the cord.

Cover the Lamp Base and put it in the box

Now you need to wrap the main body of the lamp. If the lamp comprises any strange bends or curves, you should begin from there. You need to ensure that in those specific areas there is a little extra bubble wrap. To the more, you should also fill the gap in these areas by using newspaper or packing paper. This friction caused by the bubble wrap won’t harm the lamp. Now place the lamp in the box and make sure you use the tape to secure everything present in the box. However, you can make use of one box to pack different lamps but be careful that the box is not overloaded. To the more, there should not be huge gaps in the box. To fill the gaps you can use curtains, clothes and other fabrics to fill the gap. After all this mark the box as fragile with the marker and tape it further.
