How to choose the Perfect Suit with the Perfect Fit

Purchasing a brand new suit for the first time can be confusing and overwhelming when you have no idea what you’re looking for. There are So so so many options, colors, fits, and materials to choose from. And just so you know, choosing the wrong suit can cost you hundreds & thousands of dollars!

And in this article, we are going to save you from all such hazards. We will explain to you step-by-step exactly how & what to look for while shopping for a new suit.

Are you ready for this? Let’s get started!

Step #1- Buy online or offline: The best option would be shopping online, for starters. You can surf a wide range of options online from various websites and select the best one for you.

If you still can’t pick a suit online, then the next best option for you in such a situation would be walking to the nearby store and picking a suit for yourself. Getting a Custom Tailored Suits remains the number one option for most men.

Step #2- Choose a Fabric: We suggest you look for a suit in 100% wool. This indicates a higher quality of the fabric. You can also find blends with 70% to 30% wool. Blends save you a lot of money, but they indicate low quality compared to pure wool fabric. The Pure wool fabric would cost you roughly around $500-$1000. And we assure you that this would give you a more luxurious drape.

What about the color of the suit? Pick a color from the navy, charcoal, or gray family. Avoid light gray or light blue colors, and they would give a very casual look.

As this would be your first suit, avoid noticeable or large patterns. A small unnoticeable pattern would look perfectly fine.

Step #3- The Right Fit: Remember: Fit over Price. A $100 suit that fits you right will compliment much better than the $1000 suit that doesn’t.

Pay more and get a perfectly fitting suit than settling for a cheap baggy suit. Here are specific areas that you can focus on while buying a well-fitting suit. Namely, suit jacket shoulders, suit jacket chest size, suit jacket length, suit jacket sleeve length, suit trouser fit and suit trouser length. Keep these in mind while buying a suit.

Step #4- Match your Shoes with the Suit: The only shoes that we would recommend you to get are the classic black or burgundy Oxfords.

Oxfords are formal shoes with sleek closed Lacing. Closed Lacing is when the vamp of the shoes covers the shoes’ quarters, giving it a clean, smooth look.

You can either opt for a black oxford or a dark brown/Burgundy one, whichever suits you the best.

Never pair the suit with sneakers. You can, anyways, get away with Loafers in the United States for a casual event/party.

Step #5- Choosing the right neckwear: A suit is worn with neckwear as it ties the entire look together. You can go for a red (avoid neon red), dark blue, dark green, or purple-colored neckwear.

If you are comfortable with plain colors, then go for simple neckwear with patterns such as dots or stripes. You can also opt for diagonal stripes, which are great to be worn with formal suits. Bold patterns, dark colors, and knit fabrics generally make a suit look more casual than usual.

Bow ties are another best option. They are as formal as long neckties. Always go for a bow tie of a solid color, as this will set you apart from others. It would be fine for a wedding but a little too attention-grabbing for a funeral.
