How and When to Clean a Kitchen Chimney?

It isn’t easy to clean a kitchen chimney. Smoke is a natural side effect of cooking. The kitchen chimney removes the smoke, oil, and grease from cooking. After a time, the filters can become dirty.

Your chimney’s efficiency will increase if it is cleaned once in a while. The chimney manual will provide guidance and help if you don’t know how to clean it.

However, some latest kitchen chimneys come with auto clean technology that reduces manual cleaning effort. But cleaning an older kitchen is still a mess. It requires regular cleaning and maintenance.

You can clean chimneys with many natural ingredients. We’ll take a closer look at the ingredients and methods for cleaning a kitchen chimney.

Cleaning a Kitchen Chimney

Baking soda

Baking soda is an all-purpose cleaner that you can find in any kitchen. Fill a large bucket according to the size of your filters. Add 3-4 tablespoons baking soda, 2 cups vinegar, and 3-4 teaspoons salt. Mix it well.

Allow the filters to soak in the solution for at most 2 hours. To remove grease and stains, scrub them with a scrubber.

You will see that all dirt has been removed from your filter. You can use baking soda and vinegar to remove stubborn stains. You can also use the bucket to boil water instead of pouring it into the bucket.

Vinegar and baking soda can produce excellent results. You may not have all the ingredients or not want to mix them. Vinegar is the best option to clean your filters. It can thoroughly clean the filters, eliminating any chance of germs. It is very similar to the one described above.

Mix vinegar and boiling water in a large bowl and allow the filter to soak for approximately 2 hours. After the solution has dissolved, remove the filters and scrub them with a non-abrasive brush. Let the filters dry completely with clean water.

Dishwashing liquid

You can clean your kitchen chimneys with the dishwasher liquid you use every day. You should remove the chimney filters carefully. After that, soak the chimney in a mixture of dishwasher liquid and water. Allow it to sit for at least two hours. After the time is up, use a non-abrasive scrubber to scrub the filters.

You can also place the filters in a large bucket (preferably a steel bucket) with dishwasher liquid mixed water. Boil it for approximately 45 minutes. It removes grease and stains quickly and easily. You can wash the filters thoroughly with warm water and dry them before you place them back.

Caustic soda

If you’re not happy with any of the above methods, Caustic soda can be a great option. Caustic soda is an acidic ingredient that removes stains more effectively than any other. You should be careful and use gloves before you begin the cleaning process. It would be best if you did not touch caustic soda with your bare hands. Caustic soda can burn your skin.

Place the filters on a tray. Add some caustic soda to the filters. Then, heat water, and it would be best if you did not inhale the fumes. If you don’t have one, wear it. Allow it to sit for at least two hours. Then rinse the filters with water and dry them before you place them back.

Paint thinner

Paint thinners are a great option to clean greasy stains. You might not always have it at home. You can still use nail polish remover at home if you don’t have it.

Follow the manual book’s instructions to remove the filters from your chimney. Use a clean, dry cloth to soak in nail polish remover or paint thinner. You can use the cloth to clean the filters and exterior of the chimney.

This method is more effective than other methods, but it produces excellent results. After you’re done, rinse it with clean water. This process takes time, so don’t do it unless you have plenty of time.

Kitchen chimneys from popular kitchen appliances brands are very efficient nowadays and come with good quality pipes that require less cleaning manually.

The ingredients used in cooking will include oil, spices, and other substances that create grease and smoke. It is recommended that you clean your chimney once in a while. You can do it with simple, inexpensive ingredients found in your home. You should be careful and take your time to clean correctly.

Lateral Stability for Oahu Masonry Structures

Oahu Masonry

Masonry, generally consisting of bricks or blocks laid in courses and interspersed with cementitious mortar, is in essence a composite ceramic material. Ceramic materials by their very nature are high in compressive strength, stiff, hard and low in electrical and thermal conductivity. These properties make them useful building materials, however ceramics are also very brittle, which means that they have a low tensile strength in comparison to other materials, such as steel.

Not only is masonry week in tension, but as a result of the traditional construction methods there are also areas of weakness within masonry structures. This is because the bricks or blocks are laid in courses and bedded in mortar. The mortar forms joints between the individual clay or concrete units of masonry, both horizontally and vertically, at which there are inherent structural weaknesses. It is at these points where wall panels, columns and piers are most likely to fail as a result of lateral loading.

For slabs or walls constructed from isotropic materials (that is to say materials whose properties do not deviate dependent upon orientation) and supported on four sides it is typical that the material will “span” the shortest distance. This means that the majority of the forces will be accommodated by the slab or wall in an orientation relative to the shortest distance between supports. Masonry wall panels are no different because they are isotropic in the sense of their stiffness, and, like a reinforced concrete floor slab, a vertical Oahu Masonry wall panel also requires support (as a result of lateral load imparted upon it – which is generally by virtue of wind pressures). A wall panel constructed as part of a typical dwelling will therefore generally span vertically – between the ground and a supported floor or roof.

Suitably Designed Masonry

The disadvantage of the wall panels spanning vertically is that when subjected to lateral wind pressures the resultant bending of the panel subjects the bed joints to tensile forces – and as previously explained these are the weakest points in a masonry wall panel. Therefore, in order to reinforce the wall panels which otherwise would span vertically, it is necessary to install buttressing “shear” walls.

This ensures that at least a proportion of the panel spans horizontally, and that the stress on the wall panel is carried by the shear effects occurring as a result of keying of the masonry units in the vertical direction. These buttressing supports can be provided by suitably designed masonry returns, or otherwise steel frame structures. So why does ensuring that masonry walls are adequately supported against lateral loads matter? Well, there are two answers to that question – one is of serviceability and one is of ultimate structural capacity before failure.

Clearly, we do not want our wall to fall down as a result of wind loading, so there is a clear incentive here to ensure that the wall panel is sufficiently strong that it will not collapse, but what about serviceability? What are we worried about? Surely if a wall doesn’t fail then there is nothing to worry about. Well, it depends on your attitude towards construction.

You probably haven’t noticed before, but if you look carefully at wall panels on a lot of older buildings you will quite often see a “bowing” or curving of the wall panel vertically. This is an effect of a wall panel which is inadequately designed for serviceability. The wall panel bows over time due to inadequate lateral support caused by defects such as poor tying and inadequate load transfer at floor level, in combination with the progressive effects of creep due to moisture absorption, frost attack and thermal expansion and contraction. A wall panel such as this will not only show up in structural surveys which reflect on the value of a property, but may also over time result in the collapse of the wall panel.

Most households today have an elite laundry room, keeping the whole place organized! Additionally, doing the laundry becomes much more manageable and consolidated. But though it may seem like a small space, designing a laundry utility is becoming significant. A laundry benchtop is one essential aspect that makes the space function with effectiveness. Not only do they provide space for stacking washed clothes, but they also add richness and an enticing appeal to any laundry room. Concrete benchtops can be one elegant and durable option, in this case.

A common misconception among people is that a concrete benchtop would mimic a regular rugged slab. But in reality, these concrete countertops resemble stone options and come in a medley of colours and patterns. Other surface options include marbles, lamination, timber, metal, and many more! One incredible advantage of concrete benchtops is that they can easily get embedded with other stones eventually, creating distinct pattern options! Additionally, concrete is easily shapeable, so any dimension is pitchable. And so, it is undoubtedly the best choice for a customizable laundry space design!

Benefits of concrete laundry benchtops

So, going by the fact that concrete is easily the first option one would find, here is why. Check out these five pros of installing concrete benchtops in the laundry space!

1. Extended durability

Concrete is a highly durable surface material and is highly resistant to scratches and cracks. Even if they rarely get scratched, they are quickly reversible! These benchtops are also moisture resistant and do not absorb dampness even when one piles wet clothes over them. Additionally, concrete benchtops are resistant to heat and thus, act as an all-time safe choice!

2. Maintenance? What’s that?

Concrete laundry countertops do not require heavy maintenance or blowing some cents from hand for the same. Sealing with a good wax sealer once every year is all one must do to keep their benchtops stain resistant. However, resealing is also an uncomplicated and quick process and can happen within hours!

3. Lasting aestheticism

Most people would love to pay extra care in making their laundry spaces beautiful and luxurious. In such cases, concrete benchtops can be the best choice. By appearance, it looks smooth, glossy, and polished. Additionally, with both intricate patterns and solid surfaces, concrete countertops perfectly complement any laundry space. For anyone looking for a novel design, concrete incorporated with stones like quartz can sound remarkable.

4. Of course, save money!

Laundry countertops are a one-time investment and choosing a concrete surface means forever! And so, concrete benchtops are worth every cent and last longer, saving money on a possible reinstallation. Since the maintenance is also minimal, concrete benchtops are genuinely a long-term budget option!

5. Broad shade options

Concrete laundry countertops come in several colour and tone options. White laundry countertops are seemingly popular these days because they solely drive a killer look to any laundry space! While some elegant stone or glass options do not last long, many go with compromising the style they loved and pick a durable alternative. But with concrete benchtops, both vogue and strength go hand in hand. But how? It’s because concrete can replicate any stone like quartz, marble, or glass of choice with a polished finish yet retaining the properties of concrete.

A concrete laundry benchtop can go well with any laundry space style, be it modern, classic, or rustic. Additionally, they boost the value of the entire property. And So, create a better resale value for anyone planning to sell off their flat or house!

See How You Can Choose the Best Outdoor Rug to Fit Any Outdoor Space

Even though you may not see them, your visitors are always peering around. Your house is a reflection of who you are as a person – and they notice everything! After all, if it’s your house, you will decorate in a way you will feel comfortable.

If you have an outdoor space like a porch or patio and you think it lacks something, putting an outdoor rug may complete it. Outdoor rugs can give personality to your outdoor space making it more vibrant and gorgeous.

But before you get one, here are a few things you need to consider.

Check what material it is made of.

When it comes to rugs, you will find that they can be categorised into two types, natural and synthetic. People will usually go for synthetic over natural since they are more durable and colourful than their natural counterparts.

Synthetic outdoor rugs are typically made of polypropylene, but you can also find rugs made of acrylic, nylon, or polyester. This is because polypropylene does not absorb stains or liquids. It is also made up of recycled plastics, so if you are concerned about only using eco-friendly products, don’t. You are still helping the environment.

But if you want your rug to still feel natural, even if it is synthetic, choose an acrylic. Why? Because every time you step on it, you will have that soft underfoot feeling you get from natural rugs. Nylon and polyester are about the same, but the latter can be susceptible to oil-based stains, which can sometimes be hard to avoid, especially if your outdoor space is busy.

If you are someone who has a big budget, you can opt for natural rugs. They can be made up of bamboo, hemp, seagrass, and sisal, which, unlike synthetic materials, can be hard to mass-produce, making them more expensive.  You will also have to do a lot of maintenance since these rugs are prone to moulds and stains.

But despite all those, some people still prefer natural rugs. It’s probably because of the unique tone, design, and feel it has that synthetic rugs cannot replicate.

Match the colours with your space

Whether you have a synthetic rug or a natural one, its colours will be the ones that will catch peoples’ attention. Common styles have geometric shapes, stripes, or medallions, but there are other designs like tropical or floral if you want something different.

The best ones to get when it comes to colours are solution-dyed rugs since they are more resistant to fading. Unfortunately, your outdoor rug will likely be exposed to a lot of sunlight, so that it will be prone to fading.

If you want your outdoor space to be more intimate, opt for darker colours. But if you’re going to make it look more spacious, choose brighter ones.

How was it constructed?

Rugs can be constructed in three ways which can affect their price. They can either be machine-made, hand-hooked, or flat-weaved. Machine-made are the cheapest since they can be mass-produced, made of basic materials, and have fewer details.

Hand-hooked rugs, on the other hand, are expensive but have finer details and more materials used.

Flat-weave rugs have the same price as machine-made rugs since they do not have any pile.

So, before you buy an outdoor rug, do not forget what you have read today, so you know what exactly to get for your outdoor space.
