How Can You Treat After-Effects of COVID-19?

Published

on

COVID-19

Patients who become sick with COVID-19 wait anxiously for the virus to pass but one of the most unique and frustrating aspects of the illness is its lingering effects. Studies show that up to 35% of COVID-19 survivors have trouble performing household tasks, concentrating on work or studies, walking from one room to the other in a house, driving and even doing relaxing recreational activities such as paying Springbok casino bonus games.

Today there are almost as many studies to research the virus’s after-effects as there are regarding the care of sick COVID patients and how to prevent the illness itself.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been with us for almost 2 years. While no definitive data has been released about how to relate to post-virus health problems, health professionals have been frustrated at trying to treat the wide range of secondary reactions to the virus piecemeal.

There are, however, a number of practitioners of both conventional and alternative medicine who have, through trial and error, found some strategies that seem to be helpful in treating the aftermath of a COVID-19 infection.

Long-Haulers

From the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers and medical practitioners have been astounded at the wide range of post-COVID reactions among people of all ages. The expectation was that people who are older or somehow medically compromised would have the hardest time recovering but that hasn’t proven to be the case.

Some people, including people in their 80s and 90s, recovered from the virus with no post-virus effects. Others, including young, otherwise healthy people, became “long-haulers” and affected with after-effects that included fatigue, coughing, joint pain, chest pain, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, loss of taste loss of smell, problems sleeping, problems with memory and concentration, fast/pounding heartbeat muscle pain, headaches, fevers, depression/anxiety, night sweats, vasoconstriction  (*COVID toes”), dizziness and even a reoccurrence of COVID symptoms.

The only common factors that researchers have found appear to be that women are more prone to COVID-19 after effects than men and those who are older or who have more than one comorbidity are more at risk for persistent symptoms. Even more confusing, the severity of the person’s experience with the COVID-19 virus doesn’t seem to determine the likelihood, or severity, of aftereffects.

Recovery

Dr. Aluko A. Hope, associate professor of pulmonary and critical care medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and co-director of the Montefiore Medical Center’s COVID-19 Recovery Clinic in New York spoke about the growing challenge of long-haulers during CHEST 2020. Dr. Hope cited a preprint publication posted on medRxiv that gathered self-reported data from more than 4,000 patients who had COVID-19 in the United KingdomHope summarized the report, explaining that, “For one in 10 patients, the symptoms lasted for greater than three weeks, and for one in 20, you can have persistent symptoms for sometimes eight weeks.”

Therefore, it’s important to have a plan to manage the COVID-19 aftereffects. Much of the information about this type of aftercare comes from the patients themselves who are organizing on social media and apps where even Dr. Hope is looking to find solutions. “There’s a Facebook group already that’s called itself ‘COVID long haulers,’” said Dr. Hope. “I think some of the more interesting research is coming from patient-led efforts where they’re studying symptoms using phone apps.”

A second source or information comes from a study that was published by the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) which surveyed COVID-19 survivors. The survey noted that, two to three weeks after recovery, 35% of patients had not returned to their pre-virus state of health.

“Fourteen to 21 days out, 35% of these patients—who were at least not initially hospitalized when they were first diagnosed—were not back to their usual state of health,” said Dr. Hope.

Ideas

Some long-haulers have come up with their own strategies for managing the continuing symptoms. They include:

  • Eating hot peppers or smelling essential oils to help recover sense of smell and taste. Dr. Jonatha Overdevest, , assistant professor of rhinology and skull base surgery at Columbia University, has studied the issue. “The best level of evidence supports integrating an olfactory training protocol into your routine,” he said. “This protocol focuses on using sets of essential oils to stimulate both the perception of that oil’s smell as well as the imagery of that scent.” According to Overdevest, rose oil is particularly effective and should be smelled in brief whiffs and “then to reflect on what roses previously smelled like and overall imagery of roses.”
  • Keeping on top of good nutrition will help control inflammation and allow the immune system to function more effectively. People should focus on eating foods rich in fiber, proteins and healthy fats and limit their intake of refined carbohydrates. It’s also important to maintain adequate levels of zinc and selenium – good sources of these minerals include pumpkin seeds, beans, animal proteins nuts and hemp seeds (zinc) and mushrooms, seafood and Brazil nuts (selenium). Other vitamins and minerals that are important for fighting off long-haul effects of COVID-19 include N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC0 which is found in cruciferous vegetables, sqinach, okra and avocado, Vitamin D (milk products), probiotics (yogurt enriched with probiotics), quercetin (dill, onions, capers, berries, apples and broccoli) and Resveratol (red grapes, peanuts and some berries).
  • Intermittent fasting is reported by some patients to be helpful. Researchers believe that intermittent fasting can support the turnover of damaged cells to make room for healthy new cells and mitochondria to take their place.
  • Melatonin supplements seem to support gut lining for healthy immune function.
  • As an exercise that focuses on breathing, practicing yoga, even for short periods every day, can help alleviate post COVID-19 symptoms. As the practitioner breaths through the poses and focus on every breath, s/he strengthens the muscles surrounding the lungs.  This, the theory goes, then spreads out to the entire body through the oxygen that is pumped into the body through the breathing process.

Important Things To Know About Breast Augmentation In New Orleans

Published

on

Breast Augmentation

Breast implants, by far, have been the most popular procedure, despite how cosmetic plastic surgery has also steadily been on the rise. There were about 300,378 breast augmentations in the United States alone, and about 105,219 breast lifts. Breast augmentation in New Orleans has also been on the rise as of the moment. Here are important things to know about breast augmentation in New Orleans.

What is Breast Augmentation?

When you want to enhance the shape and size of your breast, then breast enhancements are performed and are primarily and traditionally done with implants. The difference between breast augmentation and breast implants is that segmentation is the procedure that they do that is necessary for breast enhancement, while implants are the mechanisms that are being used, but each of them relies on each other.

Types of Breast Implants

  1. Saline

The Saline implants are filled with sterilized salt water and are known for providing shape and feel, which are some of the important factors in making your breast as natural as possible. They are flexible in size so you could customize it to the appearance that you want it to have, and you could also detect the leak of saline easier.

They are inserted as empty shells and they would gradually add the saline until it reaches the desired size that you have discussed during the consultation. It would allow them to be more precise in the measure of the volume of each breast and make sure that your breasts are symmetrical.

  1. Structured Saline

Structured saline is the combination of both silicone and saline. The feel that the silicone would give you is natural, so added with the balance in the appearance of saline, it is a great option.

  1. Silicone

This would have to be the most common out of the three, with these implants being filled with silicone gel. The gel mimics real breast tissues, so it makes it difficult to tell if you had breast augmentation surgery. Here are

  1. Round

The round implants, on the other hand, have a consistent shape all over and they make the breast appear much fuller compared to all of the other options. The high placement of the implant could also help the patients achieve still more projection. If your breast looks deflated or out of proportion with the rest of your body, then this might be the one for you.

  1. Gummy Bear

The gummy bear version is known for having retained its shape at all times and they are also known as form-stable implants. The thick gel inside the silicone shell remains immobile even if the implant shell breaks because the gel has a thicker consistency than the traditional silicone one, and this provides a firmer shape.

  1. Textured

The textured pocket would adhere to scar tissue that would develop after surgery and this would most likely reduce any movements.

  1. Smooth

This smooth option is a good choice if you want an implant that feels silky soft. It is designed to provide a very natural movement to improve your silhouette and restore the curve, you could get breast augmentation. Usually, women who choose this procedure, for this reason, reach their goal weight, then they go through the procedure.

  1. Pregnancy

Pregnancy stretches, pulls, and deflates your breast, putting your body through these rigors until they may or may not appear like they have lost all of their volumes. This procedure could help plump up your breasts to make them look like how they were before your pregnancy.

  1. Asymmetry

Breast asymmetry is when some women have uneven breasts, with one of the breasts being significantly bigger than the other. Breast augmentation would help restore the symmetry of both of your breasts and make sure that they are both properly balanced.

Breast augmentation surgery may be able to give your body a new shape, which would boost your self-esteem and live your best life. Being able to show the world who you are and how you look with confidence is very empowering. You have to ensure and assess that this is the right thing for you and to do so, you could visit a center for plastic surgery in New Orleans for the best breast augmentation if you are interested and consult with them.

What Are the 7 Stages of Alzheimer’s Disease?

Published

on

By

Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative illness that progresses over time. As with any other type of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease impacts memory, thinking, problem-solving, language skills, personality, and movement. While dementia will impact everyone differently, most patients will eventually experience problems carrying out daily activities, having conversations, and functioning independently. The timing and severity of the disease will be different for each person, and interventions should be based on unique needs.

About 5.8 million people live with Alzheimer’s disease in the United States, and while there is no cure, there are several treatment options that can slow progression and keep the symptoms at bay for a longer time. If someone you care about has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, it is important to know how the disease impacts them and what types of things you can expect. Doctors have developed different stages of illness to determine the disease’s progression.

Understanding what stage your loved one is in will help you provide interventions to help them with daily life. So, what are the 7 stages of Alzheimer’s? Let’s look at the Global Deterioration Scale developed to classify the disease.

Stage 1: No Dementia

img

The first stage of dementia is when a person is considered mentally healthy, free of any objective or subjective symptoms. This stage has no noticeable decline, behavioral changes, or major mood variations. Stage one is considered to be normal.

Stage 2: No Impairment

Stage two is consistent with subjective memory loss or age-related forgetfulness. As many people age, they can have trouble recalling places or remembering a name from long ago. Very early Alzheimer’s can look similar to normal age-related forgetfulness. If you notice that memory lapses become more frequent, this could signify stage two Alzheimer’s disease. There are usually no impairments, and patients can still drive, work, and socialize normally.

Stage 3: Mild Impairment

More than just forgetfulness, individuals with stage three Alzheimer’s usually begin to experience interruptions to daily routines and activities. Your loved one may not be able to remember recent conversations, experience decreased organization skills, and have difficulties in social or work settings. This stage may also induce some anxiety and feelings of denial, leading to depression.

Stage 4: Cognitive Decline

img

Also known as early-stage Alzheimer’s disease, a definitive diagnosis can be made with great accuracy at this stage. The most significant symptom at this stage is a person’s inability to manage complex activities for daily life. The stage can last for many years and see patients struggle with day and time recognition, changes in sleep patterns, and tasks such as dressing themselves. You might also notice significant personality changes and feelings of suspiciousness because of the damage to the brain cells.

Stage 5: Moderately Severe Cognitive Decline

Patients in stage five will typically experience increased difficulties performing daily tasks and severe memory deficits. Usually, people with stage five Alzheimer’s can no longer manage daily activities and require regular care and attention. Stage five patients will have trouble remembering significant people and parts of their lives. They will need assistance with tasks such as going to the bathroom, bathing, and eating.

Stage 6: Severe Decline

Stage six symptoms build upon those experienced in stage five. Your loved one may experience increased difficulty with communicating and remembering current information. Significant personality changes and increased depression and frustration might also be evident during this stage of the disease. Patients in stage six will have trouble responding to their environment.

Stage 7: Severe Dementia

During the final stage of Alzheimer’s, most will have lost their ability to speak or communicate. They will also usually require around-the-clock care as they will experience a severe lack of mobility and physical control. Your loved one may even be unresponsive for large portions of the day.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive illness that will gradually get worse. Once a diagnosis has been made, it will be important to stay in touch with the health care team to help your loved one feel as comfortable and safe as possible.

How do they make whipped cream chargers?

Published

on

By

Before anything else, what are whipped cream chargers? A topping charger may be a steel cylinder or cartridge crammed with laughing gas (N2O) that’s used as a whipping agent during a cream whipping dispenser. The narrow end of a charger features a foil covering that’s broken to release the gas. This is usually done by a pointy pin inside the topping dispenser. The laughing gas in chargers (or nangs) is additionally used as an oxidizer in hybrid model rocket engines. The metal cylinders used as containers are about 6.3 cm long and 1.8 cm wide, and are rounded at one end with a narrow tip at the opposite end. Referred chargers’ walls are about 2 mm (about 1/16 inch) thick to withstand the great amount of pressure of the gas contained within said container. Their interior volume is 10 cm3 (about 0.6 in³) and most brands contain 8 g of N2O struggling .

Although used cream chargers are non-refillable, they are 100% recyclable where steel recycling programs exist. In a more easier to understand term, whipped cream chargers are made to be a steel cartridge or cylinder that can contain nitrous oxide gas. N2O laughing gas canisters come with a foil acting as a cover on its tapered end which is punctured to release the gas with pressure. The sharp pin outfitted in the whipped cream dispenser is then used to break the seal. Moreover, hybrid type rocket engines also make use of N2O cream chargers as an oxidizer. However, the foremost basic use of N2O cream chargers is to form high-quality topping for dessert toppings and decent beverages. Besides, they’re going to additionally be used for other culinary applications like imparting desirable texture to some specific components of sweet and mouth watering dishes.

Read about where to buy nangs.

Don’t get me wrong but nitrous oxide can be a pretty harmful substance if used like a drug. There are cases where people buy nitrous oxide to get off and in some rare cases wherein people abused the substance and lead to even death. So why do people even get off on nitrous oxide? According to the website talktofrank.com, Nitrous oxide slows down your brain and your body’s responses, and the effects of the drug varies depending on how much has been inhaled. Taking nitrous oxide can cause feelings of euphoria, relaxation and state of calm, fits of giggles and laughter – hence the nickname ‘laughing gas’, sound distortions and hallucinations – wherein you experience things that aren’t there. With this in mind, you would try to understand that people who abuse nitrous oxide are only looking for that feeling of being high.

People choose to abuse nitrous oxide because it is easier to obtain as you can easily buy laughing gas from the supermarket or even online and no one would think that anybody would use it a recreational drug. But as is everything in life, anything good comes with its own disadvantages. Nitrous oxide can also inflict you with several symptoms including severe headache, cause dizziness, stop you from thinking straight, and cause short-lived but intense feelings of paranoia. Aside from short lived effects, it also poses a physical health risk in the long run. It is very much implicated that it is dangerous to inhale laughing gas directly from the canister, and doing it in an indoor space could pose as very fatal. If you’re taking an excessive amount of laughing gas you risk falling unconscious and/or suffocating from the shortage of oxygen. People have died this manner . Other risks include dizziness, which could cause you to act carelessly or dangerously. Heavy regular use of laughing gas can cause a deficiency of vitamin B12 and to a sort of anemia. Severe B12 deficiency can cause serious nerve damage, causing tingling and numbness within the fingers and toes. this will be very painful and make walking difficult. Consistent overuse can stop you forming white blood cells properly. It is often hard to gauge the quantity to use safely. If you’ve got an excessive amount of you’ll find yourself fainting, having an accident or worse.

Now you may wonder, why focus on the harmful effects if used as a drug? Take this as a warning so that you would only use nitrous oxide on dishes. This things should only be used for dishes not a short lived “happy time”. As for how to specifically make a whipped cream charger, you cannot search for it specifically because it can easily be abused by people as a drug. All in all, these chargers are basically made by a steel container that can contain said nitrous oxide and the nitrous oxide itself inside. There is also a foil covering the tip which can be punctured by a sharp pin in a whipped cream dispenser. The seal serves as a cover so that the gas inside will not leak out and as means of acknowledging whether said whipped cream charger has been tampered with or not. Read about the tips for buying cream chargers here.
