The right school environment nurtures your child academically, mentally and emotionally. Choosing the right school in Singapore can be tricky, though. Should you send your children to a public or international school? We know the importance of selecting a high-quality school, and that’s why we’ve compiled this list of seven skills your children gain at international schools in Singapore.
International schools equip your children for success in their future careers and everyday life.
1. Access International Curriculum
To achieve their full potential and land a fulfilling job, your children need a good education. The school will provide the academic foundation and teach social-emotional learning. With these skills, your child is prepared for future success.
Singapore public schools are known for their rigorous academic excellence. Students complete a standardised curriculum with set core subjects and electives. Local schools also emphasise science, technology, engineering, arts and Maths (STEAM) as they prepare children to compete on an international level for university admission and jobs.
International schools provide a rigorous academic experience to students, too. Your children receive instruction from an internationally recognised curriculum, such as the International Baccalaureate (IB), the International GCSEs (IGCSEs), the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), or the English National Curriculum.
The curriculum also includes a wide range of subjects that include STEAM, arts and humanities, such as music, literature and drama. Your children gain a well-rounded education that allows them to expand their knowledge base, practise their interests and discover new skills.
Taught in English, the international curriculum gives your children a world-class education and access to schooling around the world. If you’re transferred to a job in another country, your children can quickly jump right into classes in a new school. Their exam scores are also valid in schools and universities around the world.
2. Develop Global Citizenship
Our world is increasingly connected. You want your children to stay connected, too. That’s why they benefit from developing a mindset that appreciates racial and cultural diversity and cares about causes that affect people worldwide.
International schools in Singapore provide your children with daily opportunities to develop global citizenship skills. As your children interact with a diverse student body and staff, they discover traditions, cultures and religions from around the world and virtually travel the globe. They also develop empathy and are able to understand the challenges that affect their fellow global citizens.
By exposing your children to diversity, you open doors to understanding. Your children become global citizens who appreciate others and are prepared to interact and connect with people and cultures worldwide.
3. Discover Creativity
Children aren’t born with creativity, but they can learn this skill as they play, study and socialise. Creativity helps your children become flexible, adjust to change and solve problems. With this skill, your children may access new opportunities and thrive in all areas of life.
You can cultivate creativity in your children when you provide:
- Space to explore, try and experiment
- Unstructured, imaginative and child-directed play
- Encouragement to make mistakes and fail
- Opportunities to brainstorm and generate new ideas
- Freedom and autonomy to choose activities
- Ability to express divergent thoughts
Many international schools in Singapore can offer your children the opportunities they need to foster creativity. Small class sizes, updated facilities, a hands-on educational approach and a wide variety of activities allow your children to grow and develop the creativity they need to become well-rounded adults who are capable of managing life.
4. STEAM Exposure and Training
A significant factor in life success is thinking outside of the box. When children are able to think deeply and widely, they can face problems, solve challenges and invent solutions. Our children can literally change the world with the abilities they develop through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) exposure and training.
STEAM inspires students to look beyond the project and consider the possibilities as they learn by doing. From classroom assignments to free play, adding STEAM to your child’s school day schedule increases your child’s ability to manage real-world problems.
A majority of international schools in Singapore offer advanced STEAM opportunities. Your child can develop curiosity, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity as they take an active role in their learning. Your children won’t merely memorise facts. They’ll immerse themselves in the story as they develop, learn and grow.
5. Prepare for the 21st Century
Children need academic skills that are primarily knowledge-based because they must perform well on exams and prepare for university. But applied or soft skills are equally important in today’s world. Your children benefit from knowing how to be flexible and adaptable as they collaborate, interact and work with others.
Here are the 12 necessary 21st-century skills your children should know.
- Critical thinking
- Information literacy
- Media literacy
- Social skills
- Technology literacy
International schools give children multiple opportunities daily to develop these 21st-century skills. Your child will practise and master learning and innovation, career and life, and digital literacy skills in the classroom, during co-curricular and extracurricular activities. With these skills, your children gain confidence as they look forward to the future.
6. Appreciation for Multiculturalism
You can expose your children to a wide array of people, food and activities in Singapore. There’s no other place on earth like this unique country! An appreciation for diversity occurs in the classroom, too. When a diverse student body and staff surround your children, they learn to value differences, respect opinions and work well with others.
By nature, international schools in Singapore attract a multicultural student body and staff from around the world. While each person on campus works toward a common goal of learning academic lessons, your children also gain a global perspective. A multicultural international school campus fosters open-mindedness, empathy and respect among students.
Your children benefit from a multicultural teaching staff also. Teachers and school staff from around the world move to Singapore to teach classes, mentor students and supervise co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Many classrooms in international schools also feature small teacher-student ratios. Your children receive personalised attention and mentorships as they interact with their global-minded teachers.
7. Forge Lifelong Connections
You already know that your children and their primary and secondary school friends influence each other. These same friends can become influential later in your children’s lives, too. That’s why it’s a good idea to give your children opportunities to meet a variety of friends and develop lifelong connections at international schools in Singapore.
Friends can prompt your children to succeed in all areas of life. Your children learn about themselves and develop their identity through interactions with peers. Friendship can also help your children become socially competent with the ability to collaborate and cooperate. Consider the value of calling on friends for job leads or during times of stress, too.
The friends your children make in school lay a solid social foundation for the rest of their lives. Consider if a school nurtures and promotes friendship as you choose the right school for your children.
Do you want to prepare your children for success in school and life? International schools in Singapore encourage your children to gain seven essential skills that equip your children for their future. We invite you to discover the difference OWIS can make for your children.

Student Education Loan: Why Do You Need It?
A loan for education is a particular purpose loan, as a result of which the bank issues a certain amount of money to the client, which he can only spend on the process of his studies. Not everyone can become a student as a state employee, which means that further education will be paid. How to overcome this process with the least financial burden on the family budget and at the same time get good knowledge – we will talk in this article.
Why Do You Need A Loan For Education?
Among young people, and sometimes their parents, there is an opinion that the very existence of student education loan has little effect on a person’s later life, including on his financial situation. And when there are still no extra funds for this, such a statement is taken as a basis and serves as an excuse to refuse to receive higher education.
These thoughts are fundamentally wrong. Not having a piece of particular baggage of knowledge behind him, the only place where you can realize yourself is getting a job. Moreover, not the most promising – after all, to get a suitable vacancy you need knowledge, and of course, a diploma, confirming them. Therefore, if a person does not strive to work all his life physically and receives low wages, education is necessary. A student loan in the absence of money is just what you need.
Some Tips For Education Loan
Despite all the demand for loans and loans for studies, in practice, not every bank has a credit product in its assortment line for these purposes. Almost all companies provide such a service to the population, and among the programs, there are profitable financing options. Their requirements and conditions are standard, but the interest overpayment can be an order of magnitude lower.
Often, those who want to solve a material problem in this way have difficulties at the stage of submitting documents. As a rule, exceptional training programs involve the provision of additional documents in addition to the standard package of papers. Confirmation of enrollment, or the cost of a student’s tuition, is often required. Sometimes such certificates are issued exceptionally reluctantly. Therefore, before applying to a specific bank, take an interest in the list of securities declared by the company, and only after that leave a credit request.
In addition, you can expand your search. You shouldn’t be limited only to large, well-known financial institutions. It is helpful to monitor small regional banks. Their rates are lower, and the requirements for candidates for a loan are more loyal.
One of the most common reasons for rejection is bad credit. In this case, experts recommend not to despair – there is a chance to get funding. You need to read the conditions carefully – many companies are not attached to this factor. At the same time, it should be understood that the rate on such a loan, of course, will be an order of magnitude higher, and the total amount owed to the bank will be higher.

5 Steps to Becoming a Lawyer
Although there are several paths to becoming a lawyer, there are 5 general steps that must be completed to become a lawyer.
American comedian Will Rogers once said that “the moment he reads something that he cannot understand, he can be sure it was written by a lawyer.” Will Rogers might be surprised how long it takes to develop the skills necessary to write in a way that only confuses people.
There are many different paths to becoming a lawyer, but they all tend to be long and uphill.
Attention: Before you can practice law, you must pass the bar exam of the state in which you wish to practice.
So what is the bar exam?
The bar exam is administered through the Bar Examiners Board of the state in which you are applying.
Although the test may vary from state to state, the most common test setup consists of a 2-day bar exam that involves the following components:
- Multi-State Bar Exam (MBE). A 6-hour, 200-question, multiple-choice exam covering civil proceedings, contracts, lawsuits, constitutional law, criminal law and procedure, evidence, and real estate.
- Multi-State Essay Exam (MEE). It consists of 6 essay questions covering business associations, civil proceedings, conflict of laws, constitutional law, contracts, criminal law and procedure, family law, real estate, secured transactions, lawsuits and estates, and trusts. Many students prepare for MEE previously writing essays on the topics on the uniform bar exam.
- State-specific tests. Some states include additional state-specific essays or multiple-choice questions.
- Multi-State Performance Test (MPT). It consists of two 90-minute skills questions that require: fact analysis, legal analysis, and reasoning, problem-solving, identification and resolution of ethical dilemmas, written communication, and organization and management of a legal task.
- Multi-State Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE). A multiple-choice test on ethics.
Now let’s explore the top 5 steps to becoming a lawyer!
Step 1: get a college degree
Law schools want whole students. Therefore, most law schools do not require you to study a particular subject (such as pre-law) as a student. There is some evidence that law schools prefer students who specialize in areas other than pre-law.
That said, attorneys interested in becoming intellectual property attorneys should seriously consider developing technical training (for example, specializing in engineering, chemistry, biology, physics, or computer science). You can do a marketing course or any other course that you like to develop new skills.
While law schools do not require you to study a particular subject, the vast majority of law schools require you to obtain a bachelor’s degree.
There is at least 1 ABA-approved law school (Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley School of Law) that will admit “exceptional students” who have not earned a bachelor’s degree. However, the school cautions that many state bar associations will not allow a student without a bachelor’s degree to take the bar exam.
Step 2: Take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT)
The LSAT is a standardized test administered several times a year by the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) at testing centers across the country.
All law schools require you to take the LSAT for admission. Law schools generally put a lot of emphasis on your LSAT score. For that reason, you must take the LSAT seriously. Most admissions counselors recommend studying for at least 3 months.
You can enter your GPA and LSAT score into the LSAC Calculator to predict your probability of admission to each ABA-approved law school.
Step 3: Apply to law school
Based in part on your LSAT score and GPA, you will need to decide and apply to law school.
There are several considerations that go into choosing which law schools to apply to, including:
- Your GPA and LSAT score
- Cost of attendance
- School location
- Bar passage rates
- Employment rates
- School specializations (including clinics offered by the school)
When applying to law school, most law schools will require the following information:
- Application form.
- Application fee
- Personal statement
- 1 to 3 letters of recommendation
- Undergraduate transcript
- LSAT score
Step 4: complete law school
Under the ABA Rules, a law student must complete no less than 83 credit hours to graduate from an ABA-approved law school. At least 64 of these credit hours must be in courses that require attendance at regularly scheduled class sessions or direct instruction from faculty.
Additionally, these 83 credit hours must be completed no earlier than 24 months and, except in extraordinary circumstances, no later than 84 months after the student has started law school. Consequently, it will take law students between 2-7 years to earn their JD (with most students completing law school in 3 years).
Step 5: pass the bar exam As we mentioned above, you are allowed to practice law, if you pass the bar exam of the state in which you wish to practice.
