Burial or Cremation? Maybe Neither: Learn More About Aquamation

Many decisions need to be made when the time comes to bid a loved one farewell. Not the least of which are the specifics of how their final remains will be laid to rest.

Burial or cremation have been the two standard means since time immemorial. However, they are far from the only means available.

Aquamation has emerged in recent years as a leading alternative to traditional burial or cremation methods. But what does this process entail, and why might it be the right choice for a loved one?

What Is Aquamation?

Aquamation is sometimes called a “water cremation.” The more proper scientific description would be alkaline hydrolysis.

In essence, it is a technique that uses water, heat, and alkaline chemicals to break down the human body’s soft tissues. In function, it’s a lot like how a body would decay naturally after burial, though with the caveat that it takes about a day instead of years.

During the process, the body is placed inside a watertight chamber filled with water and alkaline chemicals. The chamber is then heated and sometimes agitated to remove the body’s soft tissues. As strong alkalines dissolve organic materials, the tissues are broken down completely in less than 24 hours.

The remaining bones are reduced to a fine, white power that becomes the remains carried away by the family.

If the process sounds intriguing, you can learn about aquamation and how it works in detail.

What Are Its Benefits Over Traditional Options?

Oftentimes families are wary of submitting their deceased loved ones to newer funerary methods.

This hesitance is not new. In fact, even though cremation had existed for centuries throughout much of the world, it wasn’t introduced to the United States until the late 19th century. And at that time, it was not exactly welcomed, taking generations before it became common.

So if you were to consider aquamation as a valid option, what are its benefits? The most significant is its lack of ecological impact.

Traditional burials involved entombing a body filled with formaldehyde and other toxic materials on a concrete slab. And cremations in the United States alone release an estimated 246,240 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. So if someone was green-conscious in life, neither makes for a fitting sendoff.

By contrast, aquamation uses a fraction of the energy needed to heat a crematorium and releases no toxic gasses as byproducts. And because it completely breaks the body down into ints natural elements, the water used is considered safe and can be returned to water treatment.

There are also material benefits. For one thing, even a basic cremation requires the purchase of a single-use casket. And certain implants like pacemakers must be removed beforehand, adding to the final expense.

And what’s more, some individuals find the imagery of a crematorium unpleasant. Rather than committing a loved one’s mortal remains to a kiln, there is something almost poetic about using water as the medium instead.

Burial or Cremation Aren’t Your Only Choices

The passing of a loved one is always difficult, especially so you should find yourself responsible for making final arrangements.

Ultimately you know your loved ones better than anyone. If burial or cremation don’t feel like the right choices for them, aquamation can provide an appropriate alternative. Particularly if your loved one was green-conscious in life.

But, it is not the only alternative. For more ideas on conducting an ecologically friendly funeral, be sure to look through our education and technology sections.

A Basic Printer Troubleshooting Guide

You’re on a tight deadline, so you rush to print your work. The printer stops working. Don’t you hate when this happens?

Printer problems seem to occur during inconvenient times. Are you going to wait on IT? The last thing you want to do is to have to read the printer’s manual.

You must be ready to fix any potential problems that arise with the printer. Read this printer troubleshooting guide to learn about common printer issues. You’ll be able to fix them in no time.

Printer Is Unresponsive

Is your printer not responding? This is a common issue with printers. There’s no need to get frustrated.

Let’s start with the basics. Check if the printer is on and make sure all necessary cables are connected.

Are you using a wireless printer? Make sure there’s a proper connection

If you have a connection, but the printer is not printing, try restarting it. Hit the power button and give it a few minutes to turn back on. This is an option you should try if you see an error message.

Look at the print settings. Double-check all is in order. You don’t want a dozen copies to come out of the printer as it’s a waste of ink and paper.

The Final Print Quality Isn’t Good

Is the printer working, but not printing quality work? There might be an issue with the paper you’re using. If you’re buying cheap paper, you risk getting a final print quality that’s bad.

Use the right type of paper for the job. If you’re going to print photos, stick with photo paper. Consider using glossy or matte paper.

Do you print a lot of pages for presentations? It’s best to use premium paper. Plain paper isn’t ideal as it will display poor quality and affect your work.

It’s a good idea to use paper that works best with the type of printer you have. Use laser paper with a laser printer. For an inkjet printer, inkjet paper works best as it absorbs the ink.

Paper Jams

Are you experiencing too many paper jams? The first thing you should do is to open the printer. Most paper jams occur because a foreign object is loose in the printer.

If you do open the printer to look for loose objects, make sure to be careful. Being too rough can lead to damage.

If there aren’t any loose objects, the issue might be the paper. A piece of paper might be stuck in the printer. Take it out with caution to remove the jam.

Are you still experiencing paper jams? Check the paper tray. An overfilled paper tray can cause paper jams.

Thick paper can cause this issue. With this type of paper, it’s best to feed each sheet by hand via the bypass tray. It might take more time, but it will save you a headache by preventing paper jams.

Print a Self-Test Page

Most printers give users the option of printing a self-test page. This is a good way to identify an issue.

If it prints, the issue might not be with the printer drive or connection. If it doesn’t print, the issue might be with the printer itself. In this case, it could be an internal problem.

Newer printers come with software that users can use to narrow down the problem. The software will open by connecting it to the Internet. It will offer a guide that will walk you through a solution-solving process.

Issues With the Printer’s Ink

Are pages coming out with ink patches? This is an issue that can arise if the printer goes without much use. It can cause the ink in the printer head to dry.

Dry ink can cause clogs. A clog can prevent the ink from making its way to the paper.

You can use a damp paper towel to blot the ink cartridge. You should see the ink coming out. Then use a dry paper towel to wick out the dry ink.

Your printer might inform you if there’s an issue with the ink cartridge. Some printers don’t work well with a third-party ink cartridge.

Check the ink cartridge for the chip. If it’s dirty, take it out and clean it and reinstall it. This should take care of this issue.

The printer might give you a message telling you to replace the ink cartridge. The most likely culprit behind this message is low ink.

Office printers can run out of ink fast. You can expect this issue to come up a lot in this setting. What’s the best thing you can do to prevent losing time?

It’s a good idea to have an adequate supply of ink cartridges on hand. If you have an HP printer, consider buying HP toner cartridges

These products are compatible with HP printers. Make sure to have your supply on hand to get the best quality printing jobs out of your HP printer.

Top 15 Orgasm Tips for Women

Did you know that while 95% of straight men orgasm during sex only 65% of straight women achieve orgasm during sex?

If you’re a woman or if you have a female partner, you probably want to know some orgasm tips for women that can make sex more enjoyable.

This guide will provide great tips to help you achieve orgasm. Keep reading to learn what they are.

1. Foreplay Can Help

If you’re wondering how to have an orgasm one of the best things you can do is change or extend your foreplay during sex. Female bodies need more time to get aroused and reach orgasm and foreplay can help bring you to orgasm.

Women need physical and emotional intimacy during sex. Foreplay is a great way to arouse your body and mind and make orgasm possible.

What kind of foreplay works will depend on you and your partner. Something as simple as massaging one another is a type of foreplay you can try.

2. Try Some Breathing Exercises

Another orgasm tip you can try is focusing on how you breathe during sex. For climax to occur your mind and body have to be at ease and steadying your breath or changing up the pattern can make it easier for you to orgasm.

You can try breathing slowly, taking deep breaths to put you in the right mindset. You can also try short and fast breaths which can help arouse you and help you reach orgasm.

3. Take Your Time

While orgasm is the goal, it’s not the most important part of a pleasurable sexual experience. Being too caught up in trying to reach orgasm might actually make it harder to climax.

It’s important to take things slow and build up to the orgasm. The journey there is what’s most exciting. When you take your time you’re better able to understand what turns you on.

If you don’t have an orgasm it’s not the end of the world. Remember to slow things down the next time you have sex so you can find out what makes you click.

4. Sexting Can Help

You might think that sex starts in the bedroom but there’s much more to it than that. Arousal for women has a lot to do with how they feel emotionally.

If you have a female partner you can start with small things that will help get her excited and in the mood throughout the day. This will increase your chances of helping her achieve orgasm.

You can send her sexy texts throughout the day. Tell her about some of the things you want to do with her. You can even send a picture or two to get things going.

5. Clitoral Stimulation Is Key

Other ways to have an orgasm include stimulating the clitoris. Properly stimulating the clitoris is one of the best ways for a woman to have a great orgasm.

You can try giving your partner oral sex so she can feel more aroused and reach orgasm. Stimulating her clitoris during vaginal sex is another way to ensure orgasm. You can use your fingers or try different sex toys made for clitoral arousal.

6. Masturbation Can Teach You About Your Body

If you want to have better orgasms you should know your body well. The best way to get to know your body is through masturbation.

Spending time with yourself is the best way to find out what works and what doesn’t. Whether you’re using your hands or sex toys, you can experiment with different positions, speeds, and maneuvers to see what gets you off.

The better you know your body the more comfortable you’ll feel in it. Being comfortable with yourself is key to enjoying sex and achieving great orgasms.

7. Compliments Go a Long Way

If you want to help your female partner achieve orgasm you should work to make her feel desired and comfortable too. Many women struggle with self-confidence and this can make it hard to enjoy sex and experience orgasm.

Compliment the way your partner looks, point out different things about her body that you enjoy. Let her know what things she does sexually that turn you on. This will make her more confident and help her be more vulnerable during sex.

8. Try Orgasmic Meditation

Another method you can try to improve your sex life and your intimacy with your partner is practicing orgasmic meditation. While the goal of orgasmic meditation is not orgasm, it does typically help couples have better sex and achieve orgasm more often.

Orgasmic meditation is a practice used to help couples create more intimacy without having sex. The process requires finding a comfortable place first.

The female partner will then lay down with her legs open as the other partner sits next to her. The other partner will stroke the female partner’s clitoris for a 15-minute session. Practicing different techniques will help you find what feels best as a couple.

If you’re interested in trying orgasmic meditation you can find out here what else the process requires.

9. Create a Relaxing Atmosphere

Women need to feel comfortable to enjoy sex and reach orgasm. While more adventurous couples can have sex outdoors or in a car, it’s still important to create a relaxing atmosphere.

Create a playlist of sensual songs, light some candles, lay out some rose petals. Whatever sets the mood and helps your partner get in the mood is something you should be doing so that she can have the best sex of her life.

10. Try Different Positions

Other sex tips for women include trying different positions. There’s not one single position that helps all women achieve orgasm because each woman is different.

What works for you might not work for the next woman. It’s important to try different positions to see what works best for you.

The doggy style can help you achieve orgasm by stimulating the G-spot. The cowgirl position is another position that offers G-spot stimulation and it makes it easier to reach orgasm.

11. Kegel Exercises Are the Way to Go

Strengthening your pelvic floor muscles is another way to improve your orgasms. Kegel exercises that require you to contract and relax the muscles in your pelvis will make it easier for you to control contractions during sex and can help you get stronger orgasms.

12. Try Lube

Lube is another thing you can bring into the bedroom to help you achieve orgasm. Since arousal takes longer for some women, touching can hurt if you’re not lubricated.

If this doesn’t happen naturally right away, it can lead you to shut off sexually. When that happens you won’t be able to enjoy yourself much less achieve orgasm.

When you bring a good lube into the bedroom you’ll ensure that every touch feels pleasurable making it easier for you to reach orgasm.

13. Talk About It

If you want to learn how to have better sex it starts with talking. It sounds counterintuitive but talking is the key to enriching your sex life.

Communication is important in every relationship because it builds trust and provides clarity about your feelings and everything else in your relationship.

Communicating with your partner about sex will help you learn more about your likes and dislikes. When you talk to your partner you’ll be able to express any concerns you’re having and work through them together.

14. Change Up the Speed

There isn’t a single technique or speed that works for every couple or person. Change things up to see what works best for you.

Many couples enjoy mixing up speeds. Start slow and increase speed halfway through. You might reach orgasm better by switching speeds quickly or doing it slowly might help you more.

15. Open Your Mind

The best tip for a better orgasm is to ensure you’re mind is in the right place during sex. The stress of everyday life could be what’s keeping you from reaching orgasm.

Distractions are what often make it difficult to be present when you’re having sex. Try to get into a more relaxed mindset when you’re having sex with your partner. Put your phone away and focus on each other.

Try These Orgasm Tips for Women

The orgasm tips for women in this guide can help you have a greater and more fulfilling sex life. You can try orgasmic meditation with your partner or change up positions to help you achieve orgasm.

Black Lives Matter: The History and Results of the Movement so Far

It’s no secret. Black Lives Matter is the talk of the decade. Race has been at the forefront of the country’s discourse in recent years, and it’s long overdue.

The movement sparked global unrest over the injustice faced by black people all over the world, and it’s achieved some major successes in its mere 8-year history.

Let’s talk about some of the major successes of the Black Lives Matter movement and where it stands today.

Black Lives Matter Origins

BLM began after the acquittal of George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman charged with the wrongful shooting of black teen Trayvon Martin in 2012.

When he was acquitted 17 months later, a hashtag began making its way around social media, which began the Black Lives Matter movement. Today, it’s one of the biggest movements in world history, which has achieved some major successes.

Black Lives Matter Successes

While the movement has a long way to go when it comes to achieving racial equality, that simply isn’t how you measure the success of a movement. You have to look at it with some measure of historical perspective.

At the time of Martin Luther King Jr’s peak of popularity, he only had 26% support from the American people. That was right around the time of his famous “I Had A Dream” speech.

While we are taught in school that he essentially solved racism, that simply wasn’t the case, as any black American can tell you.

There were two major successes of the BLM movement that don’t really have any historical parallel. Many movements have resulted in legislation, regime changes, and other massive differences. However, BLM did something different.

Changing Opinions

At the grassroots level, BLM was able to shift the consciousness of the most powerful country in world history, and have it ripple throughout the entire world.

In June of 2020, Black Lives Matter had the support of over 67% of the American people. That’s more than two-thirds! Compare this to MLK’s peak popularity.

Why is this such a success? Because every major progress that has ever been made in world history started with a change in consciousness from the masses.

Black Lives Matter Protests

While some will say that the protests in the wake of George Floyd’s murder were violent and extreme, anybody who went to these protests can tell you that simply wasn’t the case.

Ignoring all clashes with police, every demonstration began with the nonviolent intent to show solidarity for the movement, and it was prevalent in their events.

Arguably, the biggest success of the movement was having the highest turnout in world history for any solidarity movement. Even without serious legislation coming, as a result, that shows what can be done at the grassroots organizing level. If that happens again, that’s a power that the ruling class and the government cannot ignore.

As a result of these massive successes, Black Lives Matter articles are still popping up left and right over a year after Floyd’s murder. If you’re interested in learning more about the aftermath of the Floyd protests, check out

Keep Fighting The Good Fight

Black Lives Matter has achieved serious successes far beyond anything we’ve seen, but still has a long way to go. Donate to the organization if you want to help, and join the movement to help in any way you can! Keep up to date with our latest news and enjoy!

10 Energy Saving Tips for Any Household

You watch your energy bill rise every month. You assume it’s simply a consequence of living in your home, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

There are some easy ways to reduce energy consumption every day that will help cut back on your monthly bill.

Some of these tips may sound familiar, and others may have never crossed your mind. Either way, it’s a good idea to give all these suggestions a chance.

Make sure to incorporate them into your daily routine so you can benefit from these energy-saving tips all year long, and not just for a couple of weeks.

Keep reading to find out all the ways you can begin to conserve electricity both for your wallet and the planet.

1. Unplug Standby Appliances

Appliances like your TV, gaming consoles, and coffee machine, are always on standby. Even when they’re turned off, they’re still using energy by being plugged in.

Make it a habit to unplug these appliances when you won’t be using them for long periods of time so they seep less energy from your home.

2. Switch to Solar

Solar energy is a much cleaner form of energy that doesn’t rely on power plants and carbon emissions. Plus, it is a more efficient form of energy.

Check out solar panels like the ones at Blue Raven Solar to find out how it’s one of the many ways to save energy at home.

3. Cold Wash Clothes

Your clothes will get just as clean when washed with cold water instead of hot. It’s an easy way to save on energy when your home doesn’t have to heat up the water while washing.

4. Air Dry Dishes and Laundry

The same goes for the dryer and dishwasher. Both appliances require a lot of heat and electricity to run.

Instead, use a clothesline to dry your clothes in the sun. And start letting clean dishes air dry on a rack, or you can dry them off with a towel.

5. Install Smart Thermostat

Control your home’s energy output by installing a smart thermostat. You can set schedules so that your home is always comfortable when you return from work or school, but it isn’t wasting energy while you’re away.

6. Turn off the Lights

Don’t leave random lights on throughout your home. When you leave a room, turn the lights off, and you’ll be amazed at how much energy you’ll save.

7. Ceiling Fans for Summer

Instead of blasting the AC when the temperatures rise, use ceiling fans to keep cool. You can even keep the AC on a lower setting and let the fans circulate the cool air more efficiently.

8. Close Doors and Curtains

There’s no need to heat or cool rooms that you rarely use. Use thermal curtains and close doors to rooms that don’t need to be heated or air-conditioned.

9. Draft Proof

If your home is older, there are probably leaks around the doors and windows. Seal them with draft strips or another material to keep your home well-insulated year-round.

10. Save Water When Showering

Another energy-saving tip is to shorten your shower. If that’s not your thing, you can also invest in a water-saving showerhead, so you can enjoy your shower without wasting extra water.

Energy-Saving Tips

It’s time to stop wasting your money on electricity bills. These energy-saving tips can help you save money, support the planet, and improve efficiency throughout your home.
