Trucks are very important vehicles for Australia. But they can be dangerous!
Thanks to trucks, many needs are met during the day without us being aware of it. The stocks of the market we go to every day are renewed thanks to the goods carried by the trucks. Or the material required for the production of the goods in the market reaches the factory in the same way, thanks to the transportation of trucks. This and many other examples prove how important trucks are for transportation services. But on the other hand, they can sometimes be quite dangerous on the roads due to being large vehicles.
Trucks can have a harder time stopping on the road than any other car. This is because trucks are much heavier vehicles, and if they are carrying loads, it will be much more difficult to stop suddenly. Because trucks are long and heavy, their brakes need to be much more robust and well-maintained. This means that they have to be more meticulous than normal car drivers.
Because of these features of the truck, we wouldn’t be wrong if we say that truck drivers need to be extra careful on the roads.
Common causes of truck accidents
Personal reasons such as driving without sleep, driving while under the influence of a substance, or not obeying traffic rules, constitute the primary causes of accidents. In addition, the list given below is the main reasons that invite an accident:
- fast driving of the truck,
- the weather conditions are not suitable for driving,
- the lack of maintenance of the vehicle (especially the interruption of the maintenance related to the brake)
- car drivers overtaking without taking into account the blind spot of trucks,
- irregular stacking of loads on trucks,
- the neglected and poor condition of the roads is also a major cause of accidents.
So, what should you do if you are involved in such an accident in Australia?
If you are involved in an accident, your mind may not function normally after the accident due to panic and fear. For this reason, it may be beneficial for you to learn what needs to be done in advance, to overcome the shock situation after the accident.
The two most important things to do after the accident are to seek medical attention at the scene and report the accident to the police. In an accident with no injury, only property damage, you are not required to seek medical assistance, but you must report the accident to the police regardless.
You should also gather as much information as possible at the crash site if you can. In this way, you may have the right to claim the damage caused by the accident and the medical payments, if any, with compensation. For this, we recommend that you consult an accident lawyer.
The type of compensation to be claimed or the place where the claim will be made may vary depending on your location. Therefore, if you have been involved in an accident in NSW, you may want to consider working with compensation lawyers in Sydney to seek legal advice. That way, you can focus solely on recovery, without having to think about the compensation process after the accident.
