10 essential tips for using Apple Logic Pro X more efficiently

Published

on

Apple Logic Pro X has grown tremendously since the original version appeared 24 years ago – and even has various functions of its predecessor “Notator” on board. With such a huge range of functions, you should learn a structured way of using it in order to reach your goal faster. We share 10 tips that can speed up your workflow in Logic Pro X. If you don’t have logic pro X till now, you can download it from App store or Lisanilssonart.com.

1. Define the action for the program start

With Logix Pro X you can choose what happens first when the program starts. Under Settings> General> Project Handling you determine what Logic should do during the “start process”. I chose “No Action” because I want to decide for myself whether I want to start a new song or continue working on an existing project. If you always want to start a new project or want to continue working on the last song every time, you can specify that there and thus significantly accelerate your workflow.

2. Create templates

If you work with Apple Pro Logic X in different environments and with different hardware, you really appreciate the fact that you don’t have to re-register all MIDI instruments every time or first create a new track using the command alt + cmd + n. You can already save this information in a template (File> Save as template) so that you can get started right away.

For example, I like to use my laptop on the go, but also in the studio. On the go, I don’t need all the MIDI instruments that I want to access directly in the studio. So there are two separate templates on my computer. So that everything stays manageable, only a few tracks are registered in the arrangement, but everything is prepared for quick access.

3. Define window arrangements

If you constantly switch back and forth between different editors in Apple Pro Logic X or, for example, often need a large beat display, then you should create your own window arrangements.

Logic is now a one-window application and all editors can be opened within this window with a keyboard shortcut – but often you only want to open a certain editor and see it as large as possible. This allows you to concentrate much better on the section to be worked on. Window arrangements can be called up quickly using the number keys (not the numeric keypad) and even given a suitable name.

4. Define the standard editor

Even if you often work with different editors, as described in point 3, you probably also have a favorite editor that you use the most. If you are constantly building new beats, this will probably be the “step editor”, but maybe you also like to work with classical notes, then you would rather have quick access to this view. Under Settings> General> Editing> double-click on “Open MIDI Region ” you can specify the editor you use most often and speed up your Logic Pro X workflow considerably.

5. Customize the control bar

With Apple Logic Pro X, the control bar with the transport indicator is located above the arrangement. The menu for customizing the bar is hidden on the far right of this display. Depending on the space on the screen and your own preferences, you can put together your favorite view here.

You don’t need to keep an eye on the key and time signature? Then away with it! When using many plug-ins, for example, it is often much more important to keep an eye on the CPU load. And if you use an external audio interface with multiple outputs, you will probably be able to do without the master volume. A good overview can improve your workflow.

6. Save the song and name it properly

People like to forget that – and then the Mac crashes. It’s just a computer too! It doesn’t have to be in the middle of editing a project, because that’s what the backup function is for, which saves the last 10 versions by default. In the settings you can even increase this number to 100. Rather, you should save the project once at the beginning of your work so that Logic Pro X saves everything in it and not in any cache folders on your computer.

When assigning a name to your song, you can also ensure that it is sorted well. I always save my songs with the date and a recognizable project name if I don’t have a song title yet. So I don’t have to open all projects afterwards when I’m looking for an older song that has already started.

7. Understand the environment

In the early days of Logic, the environment was the big key feature of the software and was almost imperative for working with MIDI. Even today, it represents the substructure of Logic Pro X and appears again and again in a few places, even if it is only active in the background.

For example, the mixer (key x) is nothing more than part of the environment. And at the latest when you work with multi-out plug-ins and have to create new aux channel strips to make the other channels audible, you have already intervened in the environment. You can get there directly via Window> MIDI Environmentto open.

If you internalize that the arrangement in Logic Pro X communicates with the building blocks to be created there, such as channel strips or MIDI instruments, then you will understand the basic functionality of Logic.

8. Arrangement Structure Part 1: Instrument Groups

In MIDI times it was still necessary that all tight tracks were at the top of the arrangement, since the MIDI protocol transmits the data serially and sequencers work from top to bottom. This is a thing of the past when working with software instruments, but a sensible arrangement structure with instrument groups accelerates the workflow in Apple Pro Logic X immensely.

The drum tracks are still at the top of my arrangements. This is followed by bass, sequences (or guitars if in use), pads and the effects. I insert vocals somewhere as needed so that I can see them together with other instruments. And I give each group of instruments the same color. That creates an overview! The palette is displayed via View> Show Colors or Alt + c.

9. Arrangement Structure Part 2: One Sound, One Track

Beginners in particular often make the mistake of summarizing too much in one track. The best Example of this are the drums. A beat can be built very easily in a region, but if you want to arrange it afterwards, it quickly becomes confusing. You can split such a combined region into several tracks by right-clicking> MIDI> Split by pitch.

A separate track is created for each sound and the arrangement remains tidy. The important function for creating a new track with the same instrument is hidden under Track> Other> New Track with Same Instrument or the keyboard shortcut Shift + Control + Enter.

10. Clearing out plug-ins

Let’s be honest: do you need every (freeware) plug-in that you have installed? The list can quickly become very confusing and in fact you usually work with a handful of plug-ins that you know very well. And you can find them faster if you don’t have to scroll through dozens of folders.

For a quicker overview, you can deactivate unnecessary plug-ins under Settings in the Logic plug-in manager. This has the advantage that you can also manage Logic’s internal plug-ins yourself. However, the plug-ins Are still active in other programs because they are not moved from the corresponding folder.

If you are doing video editing at the same time and don’t need the audio plug-ins there, you can move them to another folder by hand. You can find it under Macintosh HD> Library> Audio> Plug-Ins> Components. However, you will need your admin password when moving.

Differences Between Web Design and Graphic Design

Published

on

A lot of people believe that web design and graphic design are similar. They are not entirely wrong. Both have a lot of similarities. However, they are different in many aspects as well. They require different areas and levels of expertise. In simple words, you can’t hire a web design agency in New York for graphic design and vice versa.

For better understanding, we have jotted down some of the major differences between web design and graphic design. Read on to know more about them:

Web Design is More Dynamic and Interactive

The thing about web graphic design is that the end result is not interactive. They are used more for conveying messages. You can find them in books and other forms of printed materials. For example, if you have printed a brochure, which is a specimen of a graphic design, you can’t interact with it. It’s not made for this purpose. On the other hand, a website requires users to interact with it and web design facilitates exactly the same.

On paper, skills they require are identical to an extent as well. For example, both web and graphic designers need to know about color palettes, right combinations, composition and layout rules, and typography, of course. However, the major difference is that web designers focus on utilizing these skills so that they can interact with users efficiently.

Load Time, File Size Matters for Web Designers

If you look at top websites, you’ll notice that they feature minimal designs. They don’t have fancy and captivating animations on their landing pages. The reason? These things add to the load time, which can hamper its performance in terms of search engine rankings (SEO). Simply put, a web designer has to deal with a lot of issues when designing a website. These relate to load time and the size of images. They can’t use images and animations that are heavy, solely because they will make the website load slow. And since the user has plenty of options at their disposal, they wouldn’t take much longer to move to the next one. Resultantly, the business will suffer.

The crux here is that no matter how appealing a website is, if it takes time to load, all the hard work of the designer will go down the drain. A graphic designer, on the other hand, doesn’t have to worry about these issues.

Typography Can Be a Hurdle for Web Designers

Another challenge web designers have to face that somehow limits their creativity relates to typography. Although we mentioned earlier that typography is one of the similar skills that both web and graphic designers possess; however, how they use it can be quite different.

Graphic designers have more leeway when it comes to the use of fonts. They can use any font that goes with the theme of the image and is readable. For web designers, a lot more goes behind the selection of the font. They need to keep into account the factor that how the font will appear on different browsers and screens.

This problem, however, has been vastly fixed thanks to CSS @font-face rule as web designers now have a wide variety of fonts to choose from. However, the challenge remains the same. It should be easily readable on every device, regardless of its size.

The Element of “Responsiveness”

With most internet users shifting on mobile devices, it has become the need of the hour for web designers to create responsive designs. Failing to do so will limit their reach abundantly. As the website will be difficult to be browsed from smartphones/tablets, no user will take the pain to use their laptop for the said website when there are plenty of options available for them. This is where the element of responsiveness comes into the picture. Web designers need to make every design responsive so that it could be viewed seamlessly from every device, be it PC, laptop, smartphone or tablet.

For graphic designers, this isn’t an issue, let alone be a challenge. They have set specifications to follow to create the design. They do not have to worry about how the design will appear on different screens or devices.

Having said that, it is nowhere implied that graphic designing is an easier task as compared to web designing. It, too, has its own share of challenges, which makes their job tough.

Web Designs Require Continuous Upgrades/Changes

A website design never remains the same for an enhanced period. As a business adds new products and/or services, introduces new offers, the web design needs to be upgraded as well. This is a requirement that every web designer has to follow. They must design the website in such a way that it should be expanded in the future and accommodate changes.

When it comes to the work of a graphic designer, their work does require changes only until the project is finalized. However, once it is approved by the client, there is rarely a case they need to make changes to the design.

Direct Interaction with the Audience

The basic purpose of a web design is to engage users. It should compel them to visit the website repeatedly. This is why it is said that web designers have a direct interaction with the audience. It allows them to get direct feedback, which helps them to improve the design.

Graphic designers get feedback from the client, not from the audience, while it is in the development stage. However, once the design has been published and reached the audience, they may get some feedback on their project but there isn’t much they can do during this time.

Final Thoughts

To sum it up, it is evidently clear that web design and graphic design have a lot of differences. At the same time, one thing is common; you must hire professional services for both. Never make the mistake of designing your company’s brochure or website on your own. Your lack of expertise will not produce the results you desire. Just like you need professional SEO services to boost your website’s ranking, you need experienced designers.

Common Mistakes in Laser Engraving

Published

Laser Engraving

Laser Burns through the Material

The very first step in preventing burning cloth using a laser engraving/cutting system is to realize which materials can defy the procedure and at what temperatures. Heartier fabrics like lace, lace and leather may withstand increased energy settings. Nevertheless, when it comes to delicate materials, it’s crucial to begin your preferences at high speed near or at 100 percent and very low electricity around 5 percent to 10 percent. Evaluation these first settings on several spare materials, also perhaps the cloth could defy that, subsequently enhance the vitality and soon you’ve got the outcomes that you’re looking for. If it comes to direct-to-garment engraving, it’s helpful to reduce the dots per inch (DPI) where you engrave. Engraving in a lower DPI helps to ensure the laser only marginally outperforming the upper coating and does not burn completely through the cloth. Most cloth engravings do well in 150 to 300 DPI. You can see boss laser reviews on facebook for more details.

Acrylic Doesn’t Produce a Frosty

Probably, this is due to using the wrong acrylic from the program. Two sorts of acrylics are usually utilized in laser engraving and are both acceptable for different programs. Cast acrylic sheets and items are created from a liquid oil that’s poured into molds which may then be put into different shapes and sizes. This sort of oil is excellent for engraving because it functions out a frosty white color when engraved, which makes it appropriate for plaques and awards. It may be cut using a laser, but it will not give jobs flame-polished edges. Extruded oil is generally less costly than cast acrylic since it’s formed via a higher-volume manufacturing procedure.  But, it does respond differently using the laser engraving machine. This sort of acrylic cuts cleanly and easily and generates a flame-polished border; nonetheless, when dunked, it does not create that frosted appearance, but instead a very clear engraving. So be sure that you are using throw oil if you’d like a frosted white end.

Wood Engraving Produces Different Results

Wood is among the very laser-friendly materials accessible not only as it can be cut quite easily, but also since it engraves quite well. But, different forests have different reactions when they can be laser engraved and create various outcomes. Lighter woods, such as cherry or walnut, create a wonderful contrast in which the laser burns off the timber, while warmer forests need more laser power to cut or engrave. Grain density can vary radically based on the kind of wood you’re working with.   For example, if a big square was engraved right into a slice of cherry, then it might have a very uniform look; the place engraved will be smooth with minimal variation in height. But if the exact same square was engraved right into a sheet of pine, its look will change considerably in height and could have an extremely non-uniform look.

How Technology Is Changing The Real Estate Industry

How Technology Is Changing The Real Estate Industry

Technology seems to be changing almost everything, and property sale and purchases have not been left behind. Nowadays, you don’t have to wait for newspaper listings or visit a real estate agent’s office as you can easily look for your future home via the internet and complete all the transactions from the comfort of your home.

Despite using the traditional real estate agents when it comes to the actual purchase, a lot of home buyers start their research for available houses for sale online. The number of people who go beyond looking for information to actual house buying through online sites is also on the rise. Below are some ways in which technology is redefining how we buy or sell a house.

It is Simpler to Find a House

Traditionally, homebuyers had to physically visit different real estate agents’ offices or wait for the newspaper listing to find the houses on sale, but this has changed since most of the agents have their websites where they post their properties on sale. There are also a variety of real estate websites that are readily available for anyone with an internet-enabled device. Homebuyers can give specifications of their dream house, and the online listing websites will automatically notify them when there is such as a house on sale.

Most of these websites all have apps that also make the house buying and selling processes easier. The ability to check new listing through your phone means that you can be checking as frequently as you wish. Users can sign up to get notifications about properties that may be suitable for them in terms of size, location and other specific features.

Easier Research

Once you have identified a prospective property, you can use the internet to research more about the neighborhood. The use of readily available resources such as Google maps will help you check the house’s proximity to facilities such as schools, hospitals and communities. You can also find other vital data such as the area’s environment, crime rate and any additional information that you need to make the purchase decision.

The use of drones has also enabled better viewing of the exterior parts of the house and its surroundings. Real estate agents can provide a bird’s eye look at the house’s roof and its neighborhood. Some people end up finalizing a deal without inspecting the roof as it is not easily accessible.

Use of Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is increasingly becoming popular in the real estate business. Buyers can now visit the prospective property through a virtual tour. Unlike pictures or videos, virtual reality allows users to navigate the whole house digitally and inspect all aspects. If you don’t want to spend much of your time visiting different places for inspection, you can use virtual reality to get a good sense of how the house looks like without leaving your office or home.

In the case of sellers, you don’t have to spend much of your time taking customers around when you have a house on sale. VR allows potential customers to view the property from home, and they can come for physical viewing when they know what to expect. There is also a higher possibility of making a sale if the potential customer wants to view the house after the VR tour physically.

Easing the Process

If you have ever purchased a house through the traditional way, you must be aware that the closing process can take months due to the involvement of different parties. But today, the process can take just a few days, thanks to new technologies like data management apps. The available digital platforms allow easier completion of the house buying processes and making it official. For example, lawyers and financial institutions will use less time if they provide all the required documents through transaction management apps.

Increased Transparency

New techs such as Blockchain can also have a significant impact when it comes to transparency in the real estate industry. The ability of Blockchain technology to pass information between two points in a safe and automated makes it easier to make all the people involved accountable. The fact that Blockchain is a decentralized record-keeping technology is important is instilling trust and authenticity in its transactions. All these new features in Blockchain will enable the development of new efficient solutions in real estate.

Use of Artificial Intelligence for Efficiency

AI technology may end up adding efficiency in the real estate industry, as there are a lot of data that need automation for better predictions and analysis. AI technology can help individuals to predict which neighborhoods will grow in popularity in the future and whether the value of a property you purchase will rise or fall in the future. AI can also help individuals find the house for them among thousands of listing if they provide data about their personality, age, size of the family and any necessary information.

It is Easier to Find Home Loans and Mortgages

A majority of property buyers need home loans and mortgages to finance their home purchases. With the availability of online platforms that compare different lenders and their terms, homebuyers can easily choose a secure the best possible deal. Some the lenders will also provide estimates of the highest loan amounts you qualify for using the personal information you provide and your credit score. The finalization process is also simpler now since electronic signatures have been made binding in real estate deals.

Parting Words

It goes without question that technology has greatly impacted how we sell and buy houses nowadays, and more solutions are expected in the future. The fact is that it is now more comfortable and less stressful to buy or sell a house for anyone who embraces the new technologies in the real estate industry. All the information you may require when looking for a home is readily available online from sites like We Buy Any House, plus there are tools to make the process of buying or selling more efficient.

10 Web Design Best Practices for Learning Sites

10 Web Design Best Practices for Learning Sites

Web design plays a vital role in getting traffic to your site. It also gives credibility to a business. More than one-third of visitors will leave a site if they deem it to be unattractive and complicated to navigate around. That’s why you need to ensure that every aspect of your site is optimized as much as possible.

When it comes to learning sites, having a great design and easy-to-navigate menus and pages will create a healthy work environment. Visitors who come to know should find what they need quickly, whether through the search bar or through the menu bar you provide.

But before getting into web design, you need to have a reliable platform that holds the site. No matter what design choices you make, a slow or insecure site will make all that work null and void. You can check this, a web hosting company known to be reliable and gives value-for-money prices for their hosting plans.

Additionally, you must make sure your website is well secured. The bare minimum is an SSL certificate that encrypts data packets that get transferred between a visitor’s browser and your website. You can get a free SSL by visiting Cloudflare.

Now here are the ten web design best practices that you should know for learning sites.

Show Your Credentials

It’s crucial to position your site or yourself as a professional that can be trusted — highlighting what makes your site qualified as a learning site. You can add your professional certificates, educational background, and teaching experience to show that you are indeed a professional.

Highlight Your Students

It’s essential to build trust by showing what your students achieved after learning on your site. You can place ex-students testimonials directly under the course that they took. If you don’t have many courses and testimonials yet, you can create a dedicated page where all classes’ testimonials are shown.

Having student testimonials increases your site’s trust and reliability, and it can result in gaining conversions.

Sneak Peaks Make for Conversions

Things like lesson plans and overviews of course materials are a great way to show what a learner can expect.

Students can see the list of lessons that they’ll take part in and see whether the contents there are what they need or not. If they find the topics they are eager to learn, they will be more likely to register for the course, thus creating conversions.

Represent Your Niche

Your overall website design should represent the niche that you are aiming to teach. If you’re running a learning site about marketing, its design should reflect that, or if you’re running a course for game creators, it should also reflect on the design.

This reinforces the credibility that you have. Focusing on a single niche with the certifications, you have means that you are indeed a professional teacher. In turn, trust and credibility will increase.

Illustrations Help

Using high-quality illustrations allows you to be inclusive and easily represent your values and encourage people from any background to join. Aim for universal appeal by using neutral colors and having diverse content. Make it clear that anyone is welcome at our site by creating diverse imagery with neutral and ageless looks.

Not only that, having illustrations can break up long informational texts and reinforce what the text is trying to convey. Students will get a chance to slow down on reading and remain comfortable as they continue to read the course content.

Highlight Specific Benefits

Highlight the exact skills a person will learn when choosing your site or program. You can place them directly below the program and course descriptions. This minimizes the chance of someone choosing the wrong course or program.

Another way to help visitors enter the right program and course is by encouraging them to type in the skills they want to learn on your site’s search bar. Then highlight them on the result pages, so the visitors will see which courses offer that.

Color-Coded Content

Colors are one of the things that define a brand. Having visual elements can help show who you are and what you do. Take an example of the University of Michigan’s blue and gold letter “M.” The colors became one with the university and are reflected throughout the entire website.

People are more likely to remember it because of the color being represented on every page of the website and that the logo is present on top of every page.

Additionally, using colors for communicating the difficulty of a specific course is a great way to further improve on user experience.

Make Course Comparisons Easy

If you’re offering different types of courses, the benefits they’ll give to students should be easy to compare, helping learners find the right fit for them.

You can create a separate page where it is dedicated to comparing two to three courses. Ensure that it highlights the benefits and shows what the differences between them are.

Don’t Be Afraid to Have Fun

Students should be motivated to continue studying while being able to monitor their progress. To do this, you can add motivational triggers and some elements of gamification to keep students motivated.

The Sensei LMS plugin for WordPress is one plugin that implements motivational triggers when students finish their tests and quizzes by giving words of applause and encouragement.

You can further have students engage with your courses by creating a gamified point system where they’ll get some rewards once they reach a certain amount of points.

Make Sign-Ups easy

It’s crucial to make web design choices that will allow visitors to convert from almost anywhere on the site.

You can add a floating top menu bar that always has a call-to-action that leads to registration. The CTA should be placed on key places on every page of your site so that when visitors are interested in joining, they don’t need to go to the home page to register.

Wrapping Up

Now you know the ten web design best practices for learning sites. You should now be able to create your learning site and attract your target audience effectively. Let’s recap on the ten best practices:

  • Show Your Credentials
  • Highlight Your Students
  • Sneak Peaks Make for Conversions
  • Represent Your Niche
  • Illustrations Help
  • Highlight Specific Benefits
  • Color-Coded Content
  • Make Course Comparisons Easy
  • Don’t Be Afraid to Have Fun
  • Make Sign-Ups easy

All that’s left for you to know is to start applying these best practices as you’re building your learning website. Remember that you need to have a good and reliable web hosting first if you want to get the best out of your website. Good luck!
